Democratic county conventions in Indiana are heartily endorsing the Congressional course of the Hon. Wiu. D. Bynum, who was censured at the br of the House for alleged unparliamentary language. The Indiana Democrats urge the Demo crats of th'e Indianapolis district to recognize Mr. Bypum's services ''by keeping him In the position he now fills with so much honor to himself, his party and his country." It is evident that Mr. Bynum is strouger now in Indiana than before his cen sure by the Republican majority in the House, audit is safe to predict lii reelection to Congress by an in creased majority. , , Not to be outdone by the navies of the other Continental powers, the Swedish Government has asked its Parliament for $1,500,000 as a first grant for several new vessels, the to tal cost of, which is estimated at $V 000,000. One of these is an iron clad of the same type as the Svea, only somewhat narrower and longer, with an increase of horsepower and consequently.higher speed. At the same time a similar truiser, the (iota, which has, been on the docks for some time, will be completed. Of the ten second class gunboats built in 1850 and 1853 only five remain in seaworthy condition. A new one is to be built under more modern conditions, twenty feet longer than the old ones, and armed with four far reaching and rapid firing guns. . Efforts are being made in Massa- chuset ts to preserve a record of the language of the New England Indian tribes by means of the phonograph. The representatives of these tribes are rapidly passing away, but before long there will be collected enough of thtyir talk to show-what their lan guages were. One of the Indian records on the'phonographcy linden's the snake dauce song as sung by the ancient Passaman'uoddies. Then an old Mohawk war song has been se cured, together with old folks tales, Judiau imitations of the cries of ani mals and birds, and an ordinary con vernation between two red men One long story, which occupies nine cylinder?-,' has been taken down. It is one of the longest stories in the Indian language, and will be inter esting tp the ears of future genera tions. The Episcopal diocese of Virginia is to be divided at the. suggestion of Bishop Whipple. Ten years ago the Bishop refused his consent to a division, and the question was for many years a burning one. The' Bishop states that he has been led to change his views by reason of the wonderful changes in the diocese. he Tstrong conservatism of the Vir ginia people has made them very reluctant to divide the historic dio cese and to sever the ties which now bind the different sections together. The Bishop recommends the refer euce of the subject to a committee to report at the next Council. There is scarcely any doubt that theCoun cil in this matter will be guided by the 'wishes of the Bishop. No divi sion can be perfected until the meet- ig of the General Convention in 1892. i.Terjbody Knows That at this season the blood is fill ed with impurities, the accumula tion of months of close confinement in poorly ventilated store, work shops and tenements.
