The fire at the oil tanks , in .Weehawken was extinguished at 7 o'clock yesterday morning. Two hundred men were imme-. diately put to work laying tracks and build ing a temporary dock r for the shipment of 5 oiL They are expected to be able to - run trains to the dock by JWednesday. . It is , officially reported that the loss falls little short .ot, $700,000. The committee appointed by Beeeher to investigate charges made against him are s promising an examination, and will proba- bly make Known the result of their' deliber ations in a few days. The proceedings of - the committee are conducted in a strickly private manner, : ' In consequence of letters received from; Ireland from some of the, leaders of the National party, John Mitchell, the famous exile and publicist, has determined on re turning to Ireland with a view to contest the election of some constituency on ad vanced national principles.' An assurance from one of the Home Rule members of Parliament that one of the sitting members for Louth will resign in favor of Mitchell, has decided the latter lo i take this step. Mitchell will leave for Liverpool on the 14ih . i n st Ant. ' i MASSACHUSETTS. A Heavy Flood Several Bridges and Buildings -Swept A war Another Reservoir Disaster. , Boston, July 13. There was a great ' flood j Saturday night and Sunday in' Western Massachusetts, caused by the rapid rise of the Westfield river. A dispatch; from Chester says: A i railroad arch bridge, a highway bridge and . two dwellings at Middlefield Switch station are gone. At Chester, West's dam and shoddy mill, four highway jbridges, B. W. 'aimer's bar and Samuel! Otis' shop are swept away, besides two railroad .bridges. , partially destroyed, The dam of the Hamp ton Emory Company, at Chester, is also carried away and a larffe amount of emory with it. Every one of the six or seven bridges on the Beston and Albany railroad, between Middlefield and - Huntington, is . either wholly or partially , destroyed. The ' embankment of the railroad is also badly washed out in many places, j and there is a very serious break between Bockett and ' Washington.
