IHB KLKOTIONS VESTBHDi Y. Basel on the returns received by telegraph op to 2 o'clock A. M., our conolu8ii-oo the result of the elec tions which took place in West Vir ginia, Ohio and Indiana are as fol low: The Democrats have carried West Virginia and Indiana, and the Re publicans have carried Ohio. With the meagre returns at hand it h impossible to estimate majorities. The Republican majority is proba My increased in Ohio. In V!St Virginia there is not like ly io bo any material change in the Democratic majority. It is possible there may bo some falling off in the Democratic majority in Indiana, bat at the time we write there seems Reasonable doubt that Jie State has gone Democratic. L-uer returns, expected before we gi to press, may change to some extent the results iudicated above. The Richmond State says that the hew comedy "Freaks" is one of the mosi laughable plays on the stage. It praises the acting of the "Criterion' I'ompany. To those of our Stale exohaugen ih ii recently noticed the Stab in such very kind and complimentary terms we desire to express our thanks and obligations. Mess i s. John J. Dargan and Jos. II. New York is infested with young Dick Turpins ranging in ages from 12 to 18 years. Almost every day one or more are before the court to answer for the crime of robbery. The Republican Congressional Committee is directing its energies chiefly to capturing members in close or doubtful Democratic Districts. They now express themselves hope ful of gaining two in Virginia. The shooting affair at Greenville, S. C, was caused, says a correspon dent of the Charleston Aews and Courier by a "wanton attack by col ored Republicans upon a squad of colored Democrats who were return ing home from the "political meeting with their white brethren." A crippled soldier, at Shelbyville, Indiana, on Saturday last, was knocked down and beaten most bru tally because he shoaled for Han cock. AU.S. deputy marshal helped Kennedy escape after one of the Ken nedys had killed the sheriff. The U. S. Marshal stood by consenting when the killing took place. "As You Like It" met with a com parative failure at Wallack's Theatre, New York, recently. Beautiful as it is to read it is not popular oh the stage. It is no sign that Shakespeare's incomparable plays are not appre ciated because this one fails to draw. Irvir3gy thQ great English actor, and Edwin Booth,- the greatest American actor, can draw always and in Shakes peare's characters. TUB STATK -CAMPAIGN. Maj. W.
