Columbia Special to the Cincinnati Enquirer, r.i. r Highland Mills, Orange coun ty J Oct. 11. At the meeting held here to night Professor F. s G. Tisdall, of New York city, addressed the meeting in .favor of Cleveland and. Hendricks. The speaker was glad to know that many Republicans were present, as.: he wished to explain to them why, after voting for Lincoln, Grant, Hayes and Garfield, .and even for Folger against Cleveland for Governor, he was now' about to vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate.--iV. T. Herald. . f Washington, Oqt. 10. The withdrawal of their electoral ticket by the Virginia Straighout-out Republicans was pursuant to orders from Blaine and the first step in i the arrangement entered into be tween Mahone and Blaine at their interview in Philadelphia, Perfect union of all the anti-Democratic factions is ia progress and by next week, whichever way Ohio goes, measures will be advanced designed to car ry, Virginia for Blaine. Should Ohio go Democratic, or the result leave the State in doubt in November, the measures and the effort -to wrest the State from Cleveland will be all the more energetic. Phil. Times, Oct. 11. r Columbus, O., Oct. 11. Judge Thurman addressed a large and enthusias tic audience of business men to night qt Gamble Hall on the railroad legislation in Congress with which Blaine was connected. The Judge said that Blaine tried to kilL by amendmentthe bill that he and Senator Edmunds advocated to get $150,000,000 from the Union Raciflc Railroad due the government,. and that Blaine usually fa vored the corporations. He also replied to the tariff speeches of Blaine along his refute, and advocated a reduction of taxes asj the . true relief to tradesmen as well as wbrkingmen: -'Indeed, theie v never was mre confidence of success . at the Demo cratic State Headquarters on the eve of an election than there ia to day. N. Y. Her aid, Oct 12. t , I Columbus, Q., Oct. 11. Each day brings forth new interest in the approach ing election and adds to the confidence which the Democrats .have expressed for several days, that they are now sure to win a the State election on Tuesday. The gen eral idea prevails among those who are best informed and especially so among the De mocratic "leaders who have been all over the State -the most, that the National elec tion will be definitely settled in this State on Tuesday if a first-class victory will tying about that result. This is based on reliable polls of the State which are being perfected and revised from certain quarters every iayv?ao& the .tide of, general good fueling which has set in more recently adds to the confidence. ' The anxiety on the part of the Republican leaders and the fact that they are unable any longer to inspire en thusiasm with the Blaine hippodrome fills them with still ereater fears. N. T. Her ald, Oct. 12. ; i -4 CoMUkBus", Oct. -10-t-The con ference ot Republican leaders with Blaine last night' continued until 1 o'clock this morning. It was not altogether satisfac tory. That which -was called a poll of the State submitted to the Presidential candi date turned out after close qnestionine on Blaine's part to be in many cases mere re ports from county chairmen in the rough. These' reports, bad - been - received from eighty-four out of the eighty-eight counties in the State . not including Hamilton and Cuyahoga,, which embrace Cincinnati and Cleveland. In about one-third of the coun ties there had been a, careful poll.. - This was chiefly through the Republican coun ties of Eastern Ohio.: The apparent want of definite Republican information, from that dangerous part of the State annoyed Mr. Blaincvery, much, and he plainly said it was a. poor condition' to be in in a time in the can vasa too late to apply a remedy. PJdU Times, Oct. 11. CJolumbus, Ohio, Oct. 11. Speaking to-day with Chairman Bargar, of the Democratic State Committee, I sug gested that if thetoll of the State which bis committee had made was as perfect as it was reported to be4 'lie had it in his power to relieve the suffering public of the United States of a great deal of anxiety. "That." said he, "is a popular fallacy. Now we Have secured, I think, as good a poll , as it was possible to make, and for some pur poses it is very valuable. As to the num ber of votes which were in the State a few weeks ago, for instance, it is quite accurate, save as to two or three of the large cities. In these cities itis simply an impossibility to get a correct poll which will indicate the political preferences of the voters. The population shifts, the men are hard to find. VAnd what do you estimate Tuesday s vote at JMr. Bargar ?" T think it will be over 780 000. As to ' the majorities, ; however, any man who pretends to be able to give you within 5,000 of a majority either does not know what, he is talking a1"1 or is frying to deceive jgxiZN. Y. fWorld. a Columbus, Ohio,, October 11., Mr. Blame has made the canvass of the State If the vote of the Republicans is Jot out it will be owing more to his person al drumming of the State than to the work of the county and town organizations. Some of his friends think that he made a mistake in returning or a second tour. Mr Frye has expressed this opinion. lne second visit has not been, so successful, as the first in drawing crowds, and I the crowds have contained more bold and hostile men &an those he met earlierm e campaign.
