In connection with the discovery of the skeleton of a large person found on the J. C. Brown farm a few1 miles further up the river leads dne to think that perhaps there may be some inar resting fossils hereabouts. Southern Pines, April 27. Charles George and Leon St. John, the oldest and most prominent hotel men in Southern Pines, were arrested here to day charged with- selling liquor and were brought before Magistrate John E. Buchan in the presence of members of the, civic club and law and order society. They waived a hearing before the magistrate and gave bonds in the sums of $600, $600, $400, for their appearance at the August term of Moone county court. Greensboro, N. C, April 27. Unit ed States District Court Clerk S. L. Trogdon today forwarded to the Unit ed States collectors, Wheeler Martin, of Raleigh, and Brown, of Statesville, nearly five thousand dollars as the net result of fines and forefeitures at the last term of the United States district court, held in Greensboro. Be sides this, about four hundred dollars were sent to the- government deposi tory at Charlotte, as general collec tions during the term from other sources. . Greensboro, N. C, April 27. Unit ed States, Marshal Millikan left yes terday morning for Washington, hav ing in charge a very bright boy named Earle Dillon; who last week in the Federal Court at 'Statesville was con victed of stealing rolls of newspapers from the Salisbury, postoflice sand was sentenced by Judge Boyd to two years in the government reformatory at Washington. Young Dillon is thirteen years, of age and has been an incorri gible thief having served two terms on ,the county roads after all other expedients to reform him had been tried by the local authorities. Durham, April 27. Arthur Duke was before the recorder -a few days ago and he-was sent to prison for thiiv ty days, because he would not answer questions touching where he had pur chased' whiskey. Duke was before the court on the charge of being drunk. There was evidence that show ed he had purchased whiskey. After the court was over he was asked about the matter and said that he had no information to give. He was commit ted to, jail for thirty days. He is now in jail and he refuses tq divulge the source of supply or the source of in formation as to this whiskey supply; Durham Herald: The directors of the proposed bibk and training school the project of Dr. James E. &hepard; have recommended that the school be located on the Duke site in Hayti, Th-ere- are strings to these orders; The offer of Mr. Duke was twenty acres of land valued at $4,500.
