T ▼ * the .V.tua lustirauce Company, of Hartford,

ful institution was incorporated by the Legislature of
'^Coiinci'iicut in I 'lO, with a perpetual charter. Its
icapitrtl i-' its* accumulations exceed
Hi ire. making its entire assets ever $300,-

These results indicate that duriug the period of nearly
i f, rtv years since its organization, (without a single
lhanpe of its chief officer,^ its business has been con-
^ .Iiicted with judgment and prudence. It has been
4 thus far su«cessful in an emiucut defrree, discharging,
■ we are informed, all its obligations by the payment
. f about '’lilliou d ‘Uir,'‘ for losses, without asking a
il.iv's delay in any instance. It has had but little lit-
ii:ation. notwithstanding the immense number oftrans-
actions made. In order to attain as much i-ertainti/ as
jiossible in such a business as insurance, it has been
the practice of the Company, for several years, at
great labor, carefully to classify and arrange their
risks into about fifty distinct classes, so as to ascertain
the amount insured on each class, the amount of pre
miums received thereon, and the amount of losses up
on each. This clussitication, extending over a long
period, and covering property to a very large amount,fur-
nishes reliable data, and presents a sound, substantial
basis of actual experience, upon which to conduct its
I’m business. Insurance is not a matter of luck or chance,

$300 REWARD.
RAN.VWAY from the subscriber, on the 15th of
December, 1852, a negro boy named DENNIS.
Said boy was about twenty-one years of age when he
left, aud weighed about 140 or 150 pounds. He is
dark complected, round faced, full jawed, slightly bow-
legged, round shouldered, leans forward when he
walks, and is very intelligent. lie has a scar on the
inside of one thigh, caused by a wound received iu a
fall from a tree. I have reason to believe that he has
been in the counties of Johnston, Harnett, Cumber
land and Bladen, and in the towns of Averasboro’ and
Fayetteville, where he passed for a free man, under
the assumed names of Joseph Jacobs, John G. W’il-
liams and William Caldwell, and at times followed the
occupation of a ditcher. I have also been informed
that he left Raleigh in a buggy with an Irishman,
probably under a promise of being taken to a free
State
1 will pay a reward of >j>100 for his apprehension
aud delivery to me, or for his confinement iu any jail
so that I get him, if taken within this State; .‘j:200 if
taken out of the State; and also ^00 for proof suf
ficient to convict any white person with having har
bored him, whether in or out of this State.
