Quesvtobt Settled. The follow ing comepordaoe in the N, Y Journal of Commerce settles a ques tion that seems to have existed iu the minds of some regaidiog the Bos ton Centennial: Raleigh, N. C. July 14, 187-5. Editors of the Jovmal of Commerce: The writer, a Confederate soldier, during his trip to Boston, was, and is now, under the impression that Gen eral Francis A. Osborn was not only chief marshal, but comm&nder-iu-chelf; my friend Bays nay. General Butler wasconimander-iu-chief, and claimed the right (State righto) by virtue of his being the raukiugofficer of Massachusetts militia. Iu other wards was Generals Osborn or Butler commanding officer ? If so, it was a high compliment to the latter, being the first lime he ever commanded Confederates with muskets iu their hands. This answer is asked simply to de cide the point; as to myself aud com panions we were delighted and amazed at our reception, and will ever remember Bunker Hill Centen uial as the entering wedge to general amnesty and fraternal feeling. The Charlotte 06 aerrertbus rtlates the story of Mr. M. J. W. S. Pearson on the one side and Maj. W.J. Montgomery on the other. Maj. Montgomery spoke only a short time after these two gentlemen entered, ana Pearson followed nun in a short talk. Greasy had already spoken once, but he made another speech of a half hour in length. When be had concluded, Gen. Leach rose aud introduced Mr. Waddell. Greasy had not seen him since he had entered the Court House, and, speaking to him, asked him if he would not excuse his ab sence from the Court House for a few moments, that he would soon he back. He was told yes, and as be c eared the door, Mr. -Waddell turn ing to the crowd, said: "You will never see Uut man in here again," and they didn't. He had too lively a recollection of the drubbing be re ceived at the hands of Mr. Waddell in Pitts bo ro last week, to meet him in debate again. Gen. Leach aud Mr. Waddell both spoke, and when they finished, Pearson bad disap peared.'' The Charlo t Observer thus, exposes a bit or Radical bombast, by which they hop tr bo'ster up thejr cause: lu the n-i rt of the proceedings of the Rud calCon vention held in this t le on ' uesday, as made up by the cityetary and furnished to the Ral Secr Constitution , the following sen tence occurs : "It was a cheering sign to see' so many tarmers present, men who earn their bread by honest toil, and who have the backbone in the face of party displeasure, to come out aud express ihir sentiments iu opposi tion to Convention." "Byshimlny; ish dot so!" Now we would like to know the names of some of these horny-handed sons of toil who "in the face of party dis pleasure" expressed their oppositiou to Can vention. There were only three farmers in that meeting Jo Gillespie, Bissel and Martin and they have ever been Radicals, dyed in the wool and double struck in the weaving. What amount of "party displeasure" do they incur in oppos ing Convention? Wouldn't they be kicked outof the party if they didn't oppose? "So many farmers !" indeed! It is not contended. that a Northern man is obliged to' be a Democrat iu order to be respected, but it is a lact too evi dent to any man of observation, to be questioned, that as a rule the North ern, men who have come South since the war, and have identified them selves with the radical party here, have made less progress in their call ings, aud eujoy less of the respect and confidence of the best people of the Country, than those who have shown proper self-respect, and respect' for their own race, by voting with and for intelligent white Democrats.
