The founder of the Rothschild
f amity, Amseliel Moses Rothschild,

silver. His son, Mayer Amschel,
was born in 1743 and died in 1812.
He, like his father, continued in the
coin business. In the course of his
coin business he niet a collector,
the court banker to the landgrave
of Hesse. This hanker was so im
pressed by Mayer's business ability
that he' loaned him money for in
vestment, and it was in this way
that the great banking firm of
