Phillips, and et the close of the meeting they served light refreshments. , Current Topic Club Met Wednesday A delightful club party of the week was the one given by Mrs. Ralph Duncan and Mrs. W. R. Absher at the Absher home on Ninth Street Wednesday after noon entertaining for members of the Current Topic Club and some additional guests. Mrs. B. B. El ler, the pre.sident. presided for current events. Four tables were arranged for rook in a setting of early spring flowers, and the tallies carried the Valentine note. The high and low score prize.s, which were defense stamps, went to Mrs. Chal McNiel and Mrs. C. G. Poindexter. At the close o' play the hoste.ss served a salad course, and at this time four other guests came in for refreshments. -V First Baptist Church Has Dinner Meeting A meeting of unusual Interest was held by the leaders and work ers In the First Baptist church at the Lodge Hall Thursday evening. Hosts for the occasion were mem bers of the workers council In he Sunday school, who hold monthly meetings, and at this time they had as guests representatives from all the organisations of the church. Dinner was served at 6:30 o’clock with covers laid for 63. Mr. D. E. Elledge, superinten dent of the Sunday school, w.is master of ceremonies, and during the evening Introduced the' ds- partment heads of the entire church who gave reports of their work and pi,-as for the year. Mr. C. B. Eller is chairman of the board of deacons; Miss Mary Nichols, president of the Baptist Training Union; Mrs. C. E. Jen kins, president of the Woman's Missionary Union, and Mrs. An drew Kilby, choir director. Re ports and plans w^ere submitted from each of the department sup erintendents in the Sunday school. The get-to-gether was known as ‘‘church night,” and the prin cipal speaker for the evening was Dr. John W. Dr. Kincheloe, with a large lighted candle, lighted Mr. EI- ledge’s, then each one's candles in turn was lighted all the way around the table. Yellow roses and white candles were used for the table appointments. Among some important an nouncements made was about the beginnin.g of a church library, a study course to be held at the church from February 22-26, which is to be on a standard Sun day school and to be taught by a worker from Raleigh, and the Training Union course to be given through this week. Funds for the library are now being raised and the shelves are being built. A gift of $100.00 from a family has alrer'dy bemi received on. the library fund, and other donations are coming in.
