SOCIETY Mrs. R. J. Hinshaw Is Hostess to Her Club The first meeting for the new club year of the Current Topic club was held Wednesday after noon with Mrs. R. J. Hinshaw at her home on Kensingtpn Drive. Mrs. Hinshaw, the retiring presi dent, presided for a shorj busi ness session during which time officers were chosen as follows: President, Mrs. Chal McNiel; rice president, Mr*. Johnson J. Hayes; treasurer, Mrs. J. M. Crawford; and reporter, Mrs. P. C. Forester. The club plans to meet each second and fourth Wednesdays. In the game of rook, which was played at two tables, the high and second high score'prli es were won by .Mrs. E. E. Eller and Mm. Crawford. At the close of the afternoon the hotess serv ed tempting refreshments in two tOIIIIW. r _J Sans Souci Club Met With Mrs. Eller The members of the Sans Souci club were entertained by Mrs. Walter EHler at her home on the Boone Trail Thursday eve ning. Bridge was played at two tables and was followed by a salad course. Winners of . the high and second high score priz es were Mrs. J. E. Zimmerman and Mrs. M. B. McNeil. Billy Eller Is Given Birthday Party Mrs. Walter Eller was hostess at a children's party at her home west of the city Tuesday after noon honoring the Eller's young son, Billy, on his Xourth brithday anniversary. Twenty boys and girls came to celebrate the oc casion with Billy, and following a period of games were served ice cream, cake, and lemonade. The huge white birthday cake was topped with four tiny pink candles. The guests were given attractive favors and Billy re ceived a shower of nice giftB. In the entertainment of the chil dren Mrs. Eller was assisted by Mesdames W. A. Brame, Paul Knight, Dick Thompson, and Quincy McNeil. T. E. L. Class Holds Monthly Meeting The September meeting of the T. E. L. Class of the North Wil kegboro First Baptist' churcfi was - ~ held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. J. O. Emerson hav ing sixteen members and one vis itor, Mrs. John Buchanan, pres ent. Due to the absence of the president, Mrs. George Campbell, the business part of the meeting was in charge of Mrs. H. G. Nichols. All fihe present officers of the class were re-elected for another year, and plans were made to send a box of clothing to Mrs. J. N. Shockey, for her group of children at the Mills Orphanage at Thomasville, Mrs. C. G. Kilby was the devotional leader for the evening. Refresh ments and a social hour were en joyed at the close of the meet ing. Little Mary Lynn Blakewood Feted On Second Birthday Mrs. Lin Bumgarner entertain ed at her home in Millers Greek Monday night, honoring her lit tle granddaughter, Mary Lynn Blakewood on her 2nd birthday anniversary. Twenty-three guests were ^present. The children drew numbers for prizes, Martha Jane Snyder being the winner of the high number contest, and Terry Bum garner winner of the low num ber contest. The guests gathered in the dining room for the lighting of the two candles atop the beauti ful white birthday cake. Cake, Ice cream, and candies made 'up the refreshment course. Mrs. Bumgarner was assisted by Mrs. H. P. Jones, paternal grand mother of the little honoree. Out of town guest was Mary Lynn's paternal great-grandmo ther, Mrs. J. Jj\ Haskell, of Allen dale, S. C. Local People Attend D. A. R. Meet at Lenoir . Among those from the local D. A* R. Ohapter attending the meeting of district Number Two In Lenoir Friday were Mesdames W. C. Grler, P. W. Eshelman, Russell G. Hodges, A. D. More bouse, Hadley Hayes, George Forester, and Miss Lucy Pinley. The meeting, which was largely attended, was held In the. Pres byterian church and followed by a luncheon at the Carlheim Hotel. Appearing on the pogram from here were Mrs. Hodges, who gave a report of the local chapter; Mrs. Grler, state chairman of membership, and Miss Finley, state chairman of the Rendez vous Moufitalff project, who also gave reports of their phases of the work. In the election of officers for the current year MIsb Finley was chosen as historian for the dis trict, and Mrs. Hodges as sec retary antl treasurer. The local chapter extended an invitation for the next meeting to be held here, which was accepted. Home Club Women Send In Recipes Now By ANNIE H. GREENE i I. If you are planning to have your three favorite recipes appear in the book, send them in immediately to the Home Agent's Office, Wilkesboro, N. C.
