Garden Club Members To Attend Meeting Two out-of-town meetings are scheduled during the month for garden club members, and It is expected that a number from the local club will attend one or both of the meetings. The Foothills District meeting of the North Carolina Garden club will be held ln the Methodist church at Granite Falls on Wednesday, October 22, beginning at ten o'clock in the morning. The p^ice of luncheon and registration to be fl.65. Those from here planning to attend are asked to call Mrs. Edd F. Gardner, chairman of the local club, before ten o'clock on Friday morning of this week. The Garden 61ub of North Wilkesboro has received the following invitation: ''The Garden clubs of Hickory request the honour of your presence at a flower show Saturday, October 25, from four o'clock in the afternoon until nine o'clock, at the American Legion Hut." Legion Auxiliary Met Tuesday The installation of officers and the appointment of the committee chairman featured the monthly meeting of the Legion Auxiliary held Monday evening at the Legion Hut with Mrs. Edward P. Bell and Mrs. Carl Buchan as hostesses. The meeting, largely attended, was presided over by Mrs. Bell, the new president. Officers installed are as follows: President, Mrs. Bell; first vice president, Mrs. J. A. Rousseau; second vice president, Mrs. Ralph Buchan; recording secretary, Mrs. Carl Buchan; treasurer, Miss Fay Templeton, historian, Mrs. W. R. Absher; chaplain, Mrs. W. D. Halfacre; Sgt. at Arms, Mrs. *J. B. McCoy. Committee chairmen are: Membership, Mrs. John Hall; The monthly meeting of the North Wilkesboro Senior Woman's club will be held At the clubhouse Monday afternoon, 8:80 o'clock, with the following as hostesses: Mesdames Prank Tomlinson, J. O. Adams, F. B. Hethcock, Z. O. Eller, Vernon Deal, John W. -Leyshon, W. E. Jones, and Fred Clark. "The Citizens to Be" is the theme of the program to be presented under the direction of Mrs. H. G. Duncan, who will be assisted by Mrs. Rufns Church and Mrs. C. B. Eller. Mrs. W. E. Jones will give a brief history of the club from its organization np until 1028. Members are asked to remember that they will not be notified of the meeting by telephone. f The Junior Woman's club of North Wilkesboro will meet at the clubhouse Monday evening, 7:30 o'clock, with the following as hostesses, Mesdames Carl Buchan, Gilbert Bare, W. Iu Bundy, and Edward Bell. Dr. Gilbert B. Combs, pastor of the North Wilkesboro First Methodist church, will speak on Ballads and Songs of the Appalachian Mountains. Rehabilitation, Miss Audrey Templeton; National Defense, Mrs. Tal Barnes; Legislative, Mrs. T. A. Finley; Americanism, Mrs. Ivey Moore; Child Welfare, Mrs. Lawrence Miller; Poppy Day, Mrs. Hubert Winkler; Music, Miss Ellen Robinson, Mrs. Gordon Finley, Mrs. L. M. Nelson, and Mrs. Clifton Miller; Hut, Miss Toby Turner; Memorial, Mrs. Russell G. Hodges and Miss Ruth Colvard; entertainment, Mrs. R. G. Fttiley; publicity, Mrs. S. P. Mitchell. At the meeting, which was opened with the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" and prayer by Mrs. Lawrence Miller, a motion was made by Mrs. A. A. Cashion .that the Auxiliary members make a donation to the Wilkes County Sanitorium of canned foods, jellies, preserves, or any other staple groceries, and carry the same to Miss Fay, Templeton at the Duke Power office by Saturday, October 25. Members when delivering their contributions to this cause are asked also to pay their dues to Miss Templeton. A new membership drive is to be put on under the leadership of Mrs. Hall, membership chairman. During the social hour the members and one visitor, Mrs. W. L. Bundy, were served refreshments by the hotesses, who were assisted by Miss Fay Templeton. Hostesses . for the ' November meeting were announced as follows: Mesdames W. R. Absher, J. G. Bentley, Tal Barnes, Ray Barnes, Ralph Bowman, W. J. Bason, G. C. Beshears, and Homer Brookshire. The R. Don Laws, J r. Hosts At Party Mr. and Mrs. R. Dijn Laws, Jr., entertained at a delightful party at their home at Moravian- Falls Saturday evening, having guests for setback at three tables. The Hallowe'en motif was emphasized in the appointments, and refreshments served at the conclusion of play. High and second high score prizes for the ladies went to Mrs. M. B. Clark and Mrs. Lloyd Phillips, and for the men to Lloyd Phillips and Earl Meadows. Winners in bingo were Mrs. W. C. Hendren and Dr. J. G. Bentley. Pay us a visit.—The Goodwill Store. lO-10-2t 1 " "^"*'"..i*T.7TSSS Local People Attend Yadkinville Wedding The marriage of Miss Jessie Leigh Davis, older daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Price Davis, of Beech Lake Farms, Route Two, Yadkinville, and William Joseph Boney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie N. Boney, of Wilmington, was solemnized Saturday evening in the Forbush Baptist church, adjoining the Davis plantation. Dr. Oharletf E. Maddry, retired executive secretary of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, was the officiating minister. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the bride's home, which Is the ancestral Davis home on Beecn Lake Farms. Among those from here attendnlg the wedding reception were: Mr. and Mts. R. T. McNlel and daughter, Miss Pat McNiel, Judge and Mrs. Johnson J. Hayes, Mr. Bob Day, Mrs. A. H. Casey and two daughters, Misses Lucille and Mary Ann €asey. Miss Lucille Casey, one of the bridesmaids in the wedding, and Miss McNiefl, who assisted in the serving at the reception, were ^schoolmates of the bride at Meredith College in Raleigh.
