H. C. Tucker, 73, Dies In Ashe County We«t Jefferson, Feb. 81.—Har rison Oolumbus Tucker, It, a Justice ot the peace here for 50 years and one ot Northwestern North Carolina's beet known men, died at 4:SS p. m. yester day at Ashe Memorial Hospital here after a serious illness of two weeks. A Am of John W. and Martha Qoss Tucker, fhr. Tucker wai born in the northwestern Ashe county, in the community which was later named Tuckerdale it his honor. He was the first man to locate in West Jefferson and was one of its founders. He had been engaged in a number ol enterprises here, including lum ber and woodwork, banking I merchandising and hotel operat ing. At one time he was cashier ol the First National Bank and served as a director for man] years. Early in life he becamc Interested in the lumber businesi and continued active until hii death. Uncle John, as ho was usually called, died just two weeks after the death of his wife. Rot. R. W. Barber conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. I*. J. Carlton , of Moravian Falls, and Rot. Dennis Paliner. Mr. Harris was 92 years old, and in his younger days was an expert at crapentry, and hand earring of wood. He was respected highly, as was his wife, iby both white and colored Damascus Baptist church has lost its two oldest members in the passing of Mr. and Mrs. Harris. Burial was in the Blackburn cemetery near the church by the side of his wife. Surviving Mr. Harris are six grandchildren, three great-grand children, one son-in-law, Mr. R. C. Blackburn, and ® large num ber of other relatives and friends. A son Randall Brothers was born Fob. 6 to Rev. and Mrs. Frank Bailey. Mrs. Bailey is the former Mis8 Edna Carter of Yad kinville. Mrs. Ollie Suddlth remains quite ill at her homo here. Her many friends are hoping that she will soon recover. Missionary group No. 2 of Da mascus Baptist church met in the home of Mrs. Addle Williams Tuesday afternoon with the pres ident, Mrs. Sarah Cockerham, in charge. After the business period and reports of the oommittees, the group sponsored a bake sale from which a nice sum was rea I llzed. The Fifth Sunday singing con vention will be held at Mt. Nefoo Baptist church Sunday, . Feb. 29. The bus will leave Damascus church at 9 o'clock Sunday morn ing. Zion church (Cairo) Wilkesboro, has been engaged in a series of serm ons for several weeks on God's message to tha seven churches In — Asia, found in Revelations 2nd and 3rd chapters. It seemed last Sunday that Rev. Mr. White iras at the peak of these sermons, but he said last Sunday that he hoped to cli max this series of sermons Sun day, February the 29th. His text for Sunday morning, "I Have Set Before Thee an. Open Door", Rev. 3-8. Sunday evening at 7:30 he will speak from the subject, "Behold I stand at the door and knock", Rev. 3-20. As this is the last of these sermons, Rev. Mr. Whiae would appreciate the pres ence of all who might care to hear him. The public is cordially invited.
