Junior Baseball Here This Year Jim Sanges, North Wllkesboro high school principal, was em ployed as coach of the American Legion baseball here in a meeting of the Legion's baseball commit tee held at the Carolina Restan rant, Frank Allen, baseball chairman, sad today. Mr. Sanges, a former baeeball player and coaeh, will begin his duties with the boys following close of school here. Legion junior baseball wae in augurated in Wilkes last year with a team in regular competi tion. The boys, many of whom were playing their first baseball, played the entire season and gained valuable experience, al though they lost a majority of games played. High spot of the season was the Wilkes team's victory over Charlotte. The committee in meeting on Monday night deferred other plans for the season because in structions had not been received from state headquarters of sche dule, eligibility, district group ings and other matters. With practically all of last year's players eligible, it is ex pected that the local team will be decidedly tough competition in the Legion district this season. o - Statesville Defeats N. The visiting girls, ranking high in the South Piedmont con ference, won a 35 to 8 decision and the Statesville boys won handily 44 to 24 in a great display of speed and accuracy.
