Miss Frank Somers Bridge Club Hostess Misa Frank Somers entertained for the members of her bridge clnb at her home in Wilkesboro Friday evening. Refreshments followed the game played at two tables. Kilby entertained at a small dinner party at her home on Sixth Street Friday evening as a courtesy to Miss Mildred Bradford, a teacher in the North Wllkesboro public school the past few years. A three course dinner was served at seven o'clock. Mixed summer flowers made a centerpiece for the table, and the honoree's place was marked with a corsage. Miss Bradford, who was remem bered with a gift, left Monday for her home at Abbeyvllle, S. C., and following a three weeks stay there she leaves for Peru in South America, where she will teach. Another courtesy extended Miss Bradford was on Tuesday evening when Mrs. J. B. Carter took her and a small group of the honoree's friends to Black Bear Inn at West Jefferson for j dinner. L Social Calendar The Women of the Presby terian church will meet Tues day evening, June 21, at eight o'clock in the Religions Educa tional building. The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the North Wilkesboro First Methodist church meets Tuesday after noon, 3:80 o'clock, in the La dies Parlor of the new edu cational building. The John ston circle to be in charge of the program. The Woman's Society of the Wilkesboro Baptist church church meets Tuesday eve ning, 7:45 o'clock, at the church. Circle No. I to be in charge of the program. W. M. U. Meeting All circles of the First Bap tist church W. M. U. will meet at the church Tuesday, 7:30, for a business meeting and mission study. Mesdames Hutchens And Stout Honors Brides-Elect Miss Mary Lee Gardner, bride elect of Don Culler, Wilkesboro; Miss Billie Barnes, bride-elect of Livingston Johnston, Winston Salem; and Miss Mary Gage Barber, bride-elect of Joseph Clements, North Wilkesboro, were honored at a lovely bridge party given Thursday evening by Mrs. Hoyle Hutchens and Mrs. Boyd Stout at the Hutchens home on £! Street. Places for the three honorees, who received from the hostesses silver in their patterns, were marked with fan cy blue garters. Two other brides-elect sharing honors at the party were Miss Jo Lassiter and Miss Betty Gray Church, their places being marked with corsages. Miss Lassiter, who is to wed Harold Sturdivant, of Wilkesboro, was given a tea bell, and Miss Church, bride-to-be of Walter Morphis, Lexington, was given china in her - chosen pat tern. Out of town guests receiving remembrances were Miss Jacque line Knott, of Kinston, house guest of Mrs. Hutchens' daugh ter, Miss Margaret Ann Hutch ens; Mrs. E. C. Hill, of Charles ton, S. C., who is here visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Haflacre; and Mrs. Frank Dresser, of Charlottesville, Va, who is spending several days here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Jones. Seven tables were placed for the game in a colorful setting of mixed summer blossoms, and the tallies were in bridal designs. High and second high score priz es were won by Mrs. BJdd P. Gardner and Miss Harriet Crutchfield. The hostesses serv ed a dessert course at the begin ning of play. Mrs. Kilby And Daughter Fetes Four Brides-Elect Mrs. Andrew Kilby and her daughter, Miss Grace Frank Kil by, were hostesses at a delightful luncheon Thursday at their home on Sixth Street as a courtesy for four brides-elect, Miss Marie El ler, Miss Mary Lee Gardned, Miss Jo Lassiter, and Miss Mary Gage Barber. A (ojjr course luncheon was ' served at one o'clock with covers laid for twelve. Corsages of roses designated the positions of the honorees, who also were presented with attractive gifts. Decorations for the bride's table featured a pink note. Ex Libris Club Met With Mrs. Smithey. Ex Libris club mmbers and one visitor, Mrs. Paul Hanrel, Jr., were entertained Friday afternoon by Mrs. Darwin Smithey at her home on Sixth Street. Mrs. Smithey, president, of club, presided for a short business session, and for the program gave a talk on North Carolina poets. At the close of the afternoon the hostess served a salad course. Yon have heard a lot about goods coming down. Sure enough they have been traded down. But its a hard job to get goods for nothing. The reason is that labor and materials are still high, and money is cheap. . The gossip is that it is not worth 50 cents on the dollar. How much they miss it we do not know. At head quarters here we don't value it too much when we buy and of course when we get the goods we are anxious to sell 'em. Your visit and comparison is appreci ated. Jones gave a lovely luncheon at her home on F Street Friday honoring her daughter, Mrs. Frank Dresser, of Charlottes ville, Va., and Miss Mary Lee Gardner, bride-elect of this month. Two, other brides-elect sharing honors were Miss Jo Lassiter and Miss Mary Gage Bfcrber. Each of the honorees received corsages of white roses and silver from the hostess. A four course luncheon was served at one o'clock with covers laid for sixteen, Mrs. Jones being assisted in the serving by Miss Irene Richardson. Center piece for the brides's table was an arrangement of pink and white flowers.
