family ufe workshop to be HELD JULY 5-8 III THIS CITY beginning next Tuesday through Friday night, students ■will be here from both the Uni versity of North Carolina, Chap el Hill, and the Negro College in Durham to conduct 4 Family Life Workshop for both white and colored groups on "Education For Responsible Parenthood." There will also be training for younger boys and girla of the 'Teen age. This workshop Is brought here free of charge by these Universities at the expense of the state. This is a county-wide course of Instruction and all persons of the Wilkeaboros and surround ing communities are urged to at tend these meetings and to send their teen-age boys and girls for the sound, and wholesome train ing they need at this age. C. 6-30-4t -:SOCIETY: Courtesies Extended j To Wedding Party Three delightful social events given the first of the week closed an Interesting round of entertainment for the wedding of Miss Billle Barnes and Liv ingston Johnson, which took place Tuesday evening, eight o' clock, at the First Baptist church. The cake-cutting party was given Monday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kilby and Mr. and Mrs. R. T. McNiel at the Kilby home on Sixth Street, gnests numbering around seven ty-five. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Day, Miss Harriet Crutchfield and Lo max Kilby greeted the guests at the front. door and directing to the rear lawn where the party was held were on the first ter race Miss Jo Lassiter and Harold Sturdivant, and on the second terrace Miss Corinne Faw and Charles Sink. The four hosts re ceived on the lawn which was lighted by Japanese lanterns. The bride's table, spread with a white Maderia linen cloth, was decorated with white candles in silver holders, lace fern and tiny white chrysanthemums. On each coiner were corsages of the white flowers nested in white satin ribbon extending into streamers. The wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, was cut by Mrs. Tal Barnes, mo ther of the bride, and Mrs. Mc Niel, after the bridal couple had cut the first slice. ' Mrs. W. D. Halfacre and Jfrs. C. S. Sink presided at the punch bowl, which was embedded in magnolia foliage and blossoms, and assist ing in serving lime punch/ were Misses Mary Louise Clements, Lucille Casey, Peggy Nichols and Mrs. Don Story. Mrs. W. K. Sturdivant was hostess at a small luncheon at ler home on Ninth Street Tues lay for the bride and her at tendants. A three course lunch son was served at one o'clock with covers laid for six, the ta ble being appointed in the bridal motif. Honor gift for Miss Barnes was a corsage and china in her chosen pattern, and Miss Beth Jones, who has accepted a position in Wadesboro, was also remembered with a gift. On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Halfacre and their daughter, Mrs. E. C. Hill, of Charleston, S. C., entertained at a buffet supper at their home on Trogdon Street honoring the wedding party. Around thirty six guests were present for the supper served at six o'clock. Mixed summer blossoms were used on the dining table • and elsewhere about the home. Mary Bryant McBride, 65, of Jones ville, died this morning in Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital here from pneumonia which follow ed ill health since a stroke last Fall. She was the widow of Charlie McBride who died De cember, 1946. She was a dnaghter of Aqullla and Lacy Swaim Bryant of Jonesville. Sur viving are the following children. Charlie McBride, AU«n, Ohio; John and Odell McBride, Jones ville; Ray McBride, Blkin; Mrs. Cooper Pardtie, Ronda; Mrv Carlle Anderson, Mississippi: Miss Lucy McBride, Jonesville. Surviving also are 17 grandchil dren; four sisters, Mrs. Ila Fin ney, Jonesville; Mrs. Cora Line berry; Mrs. Carrie Starling, East Bend; Mrs. Daley Hutchins, Boonville; three brothers, Wil son and Bud Bryant, Jonesville, and Henry Bryant of Boonville.
