akwoods W.M.S. 1 Regular Meet The O&kwoods W. M. €. held regular monthly meeting on Iday . evening, July 8th, at 8 lock, with Mrs. Ben Buslc. There were eight members and ree visitors present for the tetlng. The meeting was opened with ) president, Mrs. Fred Blevins »i€lng. Topic: "Christ the an er to oriental religions," was mented by several members. Devotional was by Mrs. Rex roud and closing prayer was Mrs. Fred Blevins. Next meet t will be with Mrs. Archie An rson. Bride, Brides-Elect Given Dinner Party Mrs. John E. Justice and her sister, Mrs. J. B. Carter, gave a lovely dinner party at the Wilkes Hotel Monday evening honoring a recent bride and two brides elect, Mrs. Don Culler, Miss Mary Gage Barber and Miss Rose Zell Caudill. Mrs. Culler, the former Miss Mary Lee Gardner, Miss Barber to wed Joseph Clements, and Miss Caudill bride-to-be of Jack Anderson, each received corsages and silver in their chos en patterns. Mrs. A. Aliens Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary In honor of the fiftieth wed ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Walter Allen their sons and daughters entertained at a reception on Saturday evening, the sixteenth of July, from eight until ten o'clock at the Woman's clubhouse on Trogdon Street. The golden note was carried out in the decorations for the spac ious room of the clubhouse, also the refreshments served during the evening, consisting of punch, ices, and cake. - The honored couple's sons and daughters with their families at* tended the celebration and are as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Allen and son Robert, and Mr. and Mrs. Willis Allen, aH of Hagersville, Ontario, Canada: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Allen and son, Austin, of East Orange, N. J.; Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Crook and son, Eddie, Mr. and Mrs. O. Q. Lassiter, Jr., Mr. Johnny Allen and son, Bobby, all of Jackson ville, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Jane Allen. Hudson-Ferguson Vows Solemnized Miss Holt Hudson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan H. Hudson, North Wilkesboro, Route two, and Lacy Ferguson, the only sod of Mrs. B. A. Ferguson, of Mora vian Falls, and the late Mr. Fer guson, were united in marriage on Saturday, July the ninth, at the home of Rev. Dean L. Min ton, who was the officiating min ister. 1 For her nuptials the bride w<W an aqua suit with white ^nd navy blue accessories and 'in or chi<| corsage. Following the ceremony the couple left for a trip to Wash ington, D. C. where they visited Mr. Ferguson's sister, Mrs. W. F. Jordon.. They are making their home with the groom's mo ther. Miss Rose Zell Caudill Feted At Tea An interesting social event of the week was the tea given Tues day afternoon by Mrs. F. D. Forester, Jr., and Mrs. Watson Brame as a courtesy to Miss Rose Zell Caudill, who is to be mar ried the last of this month to Jack Anderson, of this city. The tea was held at the home of Mrs. Forester on Sixth Street. A large number of guests called be tween the hours of three to five to greet the honoree, who is a sister of Mrs. Forester, and to enjoy the gracious hospitality of the hostesses. Mrs. F. C. Forester greeted the callers at the door, and Mrs. James M. Anderson, mother of the groom, received with the two hostesses and Miss Caudill. Mrs. W. F. Absher poured tea at the dining room table, which was spread with a white lace cloth, and centered with a silver bowl of mixed white flowers and white candles in silver holders. Assist ing with the serving were Misses Margaret Anderson and Linda Brame, and goodbyes were said by Mrs. Frank Blair and Mrs. Harold Burke.
