I la Holman Bible Class Holds Monthly Meeting The members of the lie Hol man class of the WUkesboro Bap tist church held their monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon in the new educational building of the church, and at the close of meeting enjoyed refreshments which were contributed by each of the members attending. Mrs. J. R. Turner, program chairman, was assisted by Mrs. R. I* Well born, who led the devotions us ing as her theme, Light, and read a poem on, missions. Mrs. J. W. Neel made a talk on Light of the World; Mrs. T. M. Poster, on I Have Done My Part; Mrs. Carl Bullls, Walk as Children of the Light; Mrs. Coley Parker, ,The Disappointed Lord, and Mrs. Turner on How to Influence Peo ple. For the program an in formal discussion was engaged in of new books and book reviews that had been read by the group. In serving refreshments at the close of the afternoon the hostess was assisted by her two young daughters, Terry and Ellen Jones. Mrs. Albert Garwood Bridge Club Hostess Bridge was played at two tables First Methodist WSCS Holds Open House The members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the North Wilkesboro First Meth odist church held "open house" in the educational building of the church on Wednesday eve ning from seven-thirty until nine o'clock honoring tbe new pastor and his wife, Rev. and Mrs. Russell L. Toung, who came to North Wilkesboro from Waynes ville; Miss Rebecca Raper, of Asheboro, tbe new director of religious education; Miss Martba Lue Frazier, tbe new choir di rector; several brides of the church during the summer and their husbands, and new mem bers of the church. The bridal couples included Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sturdivant, Mrs. Sturdivant, the former di rector of religiouB education was before her marrage Miss Jose phine Lassiter, of Four Oaks; Mrs. Ivey Moore, of North Wil keeboro, chairman of the sub district, presided for the meeting and Mrs. P. G. Moore, of Granite Palls, acted as secretary, both of whom are serving for ? another year. The meeting next spring is to be held at Lenoir. Others participating from this community were Miss Rebecca Raper, North Wilkesboro, who sang "1 Heard the Voice of Jesus Say"; Mrs. M. P. Bum garner, from the Friendship church, who gave the response to the welcome address; and Mrs. W. E. Geither, of Millers Creek, offered the invocation at the luncheon served by the host church. Those going from the First Methodist church other than Mrs. Moore and Miss Raper were Mes dames W. F. Gaddy, W. E. Jones. C. L. Sockwell, George McT. Miller, Thurmond Kenerly, J. D. Moore, Sr., J. R. Tea and Topics Club Met With Mrs. Miller The members of the Tea and Topics club and several visitors were delightfully entertained Thursday evening by Mrs. Warner Miller, Sr., at her home in Wilkes boo. The guests upon arrival en joyed a buffet supper served from the dining room table, which had a colorful centerpiece of mixed fall blossoms. Culler, Mr. Culler is a new mem ber and Mrs. Culler prior to her marriage was Miss Mary Lee Gardner; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaddy, Mrs. Gaddy, a new mem ber, is the former Miss Betty Lou Foster; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hix, Mrs. Hix, a new member, was Miss Eutha Spencer, of High Point before her marriage; and Mr. and Mrs. William Gray, Mrs. Gray is the former Miss Dot Powell. Among other new members of the church are Mr. and Mrs. Paul West, Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Grogan; Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Trivette and their daughter, Mrs. William Kuenzel, of Miami Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Ray Jennings, who was unable to be present due to Ill ness. A large number of members of the church .and friends in the community called during the ecening and were served punch and cake. Officers of the Wom an's Society, with their husbands, helped with the entertainment of the guests, and during the eve ning teachers and officers of the church school received in the various departments and class rooms.
