WILKESBORO, NORTH WILKESBORO ?WIDE TWO BASKETBALL GAMES North Wilkesboro girls and Wilkesboro boys emerged victors in the first basketball games of the season between the two' schools here Tneeday night. The Mountain Lionesses won 24 to >13 while the Wllkesboro Ramb lers evened the score with a 37j to 31 win in the nightcap. Betty Whicker with eight and Nancy Woodruff with six led the victors in the opening, game. I while Peggy J arris scored all of Wilkes bo ro's 13 points. The boys' game was a thriller from start to finish. The Moun tain Lions took an early., lead, which they did not relinquish until the fourth period when the score became tied. With two minutes to go Wilkesboro had a one point lead, and the Ramb lers forged ahead rapidly in the closing minutes. In the boys game the star was easily Dean Edwards, Rambler center who collected 25 points. Joe Eller with 13 was the lead ing scorer and outstanding play er for North Wilkesboro. Bluejackets Will Play Enka Cagers On Friday Night * Eller's Bluejackets, who have been taking on some of Caro lina's best basketball teams, will play another big-time team Fri day night when they meet the Enka cagers from Asheville in Wilkes boro gymnasium. Game time will be eight o'clock. Enka is second ranking team in the Textile basketball league, which includes the best semi nro teams in the state. On the Enka team are a number of former college all-state players. The Bluejackets, sponsored by Eller's Lumber Supply at Millers Creek, has a very creditable team which is putting semi-pro basketball on the map in north western North Carolina and de serves the support of all basket ball fans in this -vicinity. The next home game of the Bluejackets will be against the Elkin Y. M. C. A. team next Wednesday night, eight o'clock, in Millers Creek gymnasium. Statesville Beats North Wilkesboro North Wilkesboro high school: basketball teams dropped their first South Piedmont Conference games to Statesville Friday night at Statesville.
