Winston-Salem. — "Let's Go Visiting!" That's the title of a new series of Sanda? afternoon programs that Is being broad caat by Radio SUtlon WSJS In Winston-Salem. As announced by Harold Essex, WSJS -managing director, each program in this A ROCKET'S 'EYE VIEW' OF EARTH HURTUNO SKYWARD alter being launched at the White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico, a V-2 rocket (top), Installed with a special camcra, begins its speedy trek into the heavens. Reaching a maximum velocity at 2,985 miles per hour, the camera-carrying rocket photographs the earth (center) from a height at 30 miles. In the air slightly more than three minifies, the rocket (bottom) gives the camera a "lens-eye" view of the earth from an altitude of approximately 75 miles. Note the earth's curvature. Next Sunday, Mr.-.Essex says, the program will tell the story of the Wilkesboros and Wilkes County. It will consist of inter views with prominent citizens of those communities and music by the choir of the colored First Baptist church of North Wilkes boro, under the direction of Leonard Haughton, People who will bp interview ed on the program are: Mayor R. T. McNiel, of North Wilkes boto: Richard Johnston, a prom inent manufacturer and civic leader;* Mrs. Paul Oreen, Wilkes, County home demonstration a gent; J. B. Williams, first presi dent of the Wilkes chamber of commerce; Tom Jenrette, cham ber of commerce manager; and Mrs. B. R. Underwood, of the U. S. Employment Service. Radio Station WSJS is at 600 (AM) and at 104.1 (FM) on the radio dial. Mr. Essex says the idea for this series of programs was spawned during a WSJS staff conference, when the conversa tion turned |o the many interest ing communities, historically, in dustrially and agriculturally. that are found in this area of [Northwest North Carolina and Southwest Virgin!*. Staffmen Harvey Dinkins, Johnny Comas and Leon Laslye were assigned to the series, and they hare spent many weeks touring the communities of this area to make the necessary arrange ments. The first of the "Let's Go Visiting" programs, an Introduc tory one, was broadcast last Sunday. I Miss R'uth Thompson, assist-! ant agent, gave an interesting demonstration on "Yard Btautl- i' ficatlon." She showed several pictures of things we can do to improve the looks of our homes and yards to make them more attractive. She suggested we clean up those unsightly scenes, such as trash piles and wood piles and to screen off our barns and outbuildings with ever greens, so as to make them more attractive. Miss Thompson also made some special announce ments. One is our Spring Fes tival to be held in Elkin on March 9th. During the social hour re freshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. R. H.
