J 3 You will admit, I presume, without an argument thatjdistilled spirits do a vast amount of harm; How many men have you known to die in the prime of life from its effects ? How many to abuse their families ? Famjly broils are so generally caused by strong drink that when you hear of a maii abusing his wife, the in stinctive enquiry; is, "was he drunk?" How many do!you now know in suffering poverty brought on by strong drink? How many have you known expelled from the church on account of it ? It has been stated as a fact y those who have inves tigated the matter, that three-fourlhs of the crime and pauperism of our country is occasioned by strong drink ?
