If the public mind is not exciied b this lime into a state of lively curiosity, ill 'is not the fault oMhe newspapers. im i The public mind, however, seems to possess itself with admirable composure. - Wittin Ihe political circle of aspirants and expectants. a. mong those who resolve ail public alliirs into the disposal of ofTices and success or fdefeal of intrigues, ind regard the Government mainly, as a huge magazine ol patronage--ambng lat busy and anxious class there is no doubt a grat deal of nervous agitation and restless Idisquie. tude. A general confidence, however, in the safety ol the Republic, in the stabilitv of the Union, in the honesty and capability of the Ad ministration, has thus far preserved tne great body of th people from upcasy excitentent, and we are happy to indulge tne hope teat tucb confidence will continue. f That there are questions of seriouslmoment awaiting the deliberations of Congres is very true, Uutiji is equally true lhat agflationjin ndvance is1 not likely to conduce to the Satisfac tory settlement of any of them. The people of this country, moreover, have met serious qufs- lions before, and they-have" generally found the m more: formidable at a distance thin when encountered in reality. In many cses the country itself, in its rapid progress andtunceas. ing developments, outgrows these questions be fore they come to those issues which are repre sented as so terrible. The nerveMand the sinews of the young republican giant, -loo, are being toojstrong and hardy to be stirtled' or strained at diflicullies. A crisis now-a-days has to get Itself settled as well as it can. At any rate, it mtist get out of the way arid cease to interpose abstractions to stop the onward movement of the times. The uncertainty that exists touching the po litical character of the House of Representa tives involves really no very important matter, and perhaps upon the whole it is betteir that, In the absence of a decided preponderance of apy special party, the deliberations .of that body should fori once be controlled by they party of the country. ,The Administration, dpendihg I lor snppor upon the wisdom ot its measures,! and the high national spiritwhich we;may be. sure will mark its course, rriay ,come before' ( Any Congress and abide the result. If a fac tious opposition should obstruct it ini its piir. poses of national good ; if corntpl combinations should seek to embarrass it ; if sectional fa naticism should strike at its comprehensive arkd patriotic policy, it will not be the first tme that sueh arrays of factions have been exhibited to be rebuked.
