TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 1932. Est. 1-31-28 Trjjom-Saliida Split Double Tryon and Saluda split a double header in basketball here yesterday atternoon. Tryon girls won by a score of 18 to 10, but the local boys lost by a score of 17 to 8. Kitucmis Hear Stearns W.H. Stearns gave interesting account of his life today at the Kiwanis meeting. He told of being born in Ohio and coming to Tryon as a young man to engage in hotel work. Railroading, postoffice and road building were among his other occupations. At the conclusion of his talk President J.N. Jackson gave a testimony of the love and appreciation that is held by many friends in Polk county for “Uncle Bill.” Work of Helping Hand Interesting meeting yesterday at Parish House , All committees at work , Child is being cartd for at hospital. 36 baskets given to poor , Bank Officials Re-Elected The stockholders of the Tryon Bank and Trust Co. met this afternoon and re-elected the following directors; L.A. Avant, C. M. Howes, J. B. Hester, EE. Missildine, N.R. Rector, W. C. Ward, Nelson Jackson, Jr. These men then elected President EE. Missildine; Vice-Pres., Cashier JB. Hester; Asst. Cashier Miss Alva Jackson. The Bank showed good progress. Episcopal Church Meeting The Episcopalians held an enthusiastic and well-attend annual parish meeting last nighr at the parish house. After a word of welcome and brief review of the church life for the past year by the rector, reports were give by the treasurer of the parish, the Woman’s Auxiliary, Church Periodical Club, St Agnes guild, Mary Brady Berry Welfare Fund, the Helping Hand Society and the Sunday School. Refreshments were served by the ladies of St. Agnes guild. The following were elected vestrymen for the ensuing year: Dr. Earle Grady, senior warden; D.S. Blois, junior warden; Henry Bray, treasurer; W.A. Dobbyn, clerk; FP. Bacon, George A. Cathey, Julian-Calhoun, Harold Crandall, G.H. Holmes, Dr. A. J. Jervey, Prentice Luckey, M.R. McCown, Dr. M. C. Palmer, J. Foster Searles and Maj. Bernard Sharp.
