C., TUESDAY, JAN. 29, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Tryon Teams At Duncan Tonight Duncan, Jan. 28.—Duncan high school meets Tryon high school of Tryon, N. C., here in a double header Tuesday at 7:30 p. m. This will be the first appearance of a Tryon basketball team here but for four straight years the Duncan and Tryon teams have clashed on the gridiron. The visitors bring to Duncan two real teams and a large crowd will be present when the game starts Spartanburg Herald. SCOUTS TO USHER The following Boy Scbuts, in full Scout dress, will serve as ushers at the President’s Ball Wednesday evening at Oak Hall: Bruce Byers, Henry Shankle, Jr., Nelson Jackson, III* Cecil Warner, and Emerson Edney. BIRTHDAY CAKE The bea/utiful 20-pound Presi dent’s birthday cake, baked and donated for the Tryon ball by Becker’s Bakery, Spartanburg, has arrived in Tryon and is,on display at The Ballenger Co., grocery de partment. This cake will become the property of some lucky indivi dual at the ball Wednesday even ing. Absentee Voting Raleigh, Jan. 28.—Repeal or restriction of absentee voting privileges, unification of the elec tion laws relating to primaries as well as general elections, and a new state-wide registration for 1936 are recommended by the state board of elections in a report handed today to Governor Ehring baus and to the General Assembly. Hunting Season Dates Are Given R. B. Williams, game warden for Polk county, gives hunters the following dates for the remainder of the hunting season: On all game - and fur-bearing animals, the season closes on Janu ary 31st; the dove season closes on January 31st. Rabbit and quail season closes on February 20 th. W. C. T. U. Postponed The W. C. T. U. meeting has agiain been postponed on account of the President, Mrs. L. A. Avant being called out of town. The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 14, at 4 p. m,, with Mrs. Avant.
