Republican Difficulties In The Legislature Continued from Pane One in Polk county has met with in difference in the house committee on elections and election laws, mainly because Mr. Cloud bolted the Democratic party to run on the Republican ticket in the 1934 election. Glass Wins Victory for \ Simplified Bill Washington, Feb. 4. Cartels Glass of Virginia, smilingly an-* nounced today a major victory in his war against the phrase “and or” which has been springled through most recent federal statutes. The senate appropriations com mittee eliminated the six “and or’s” in the administration’s work relief bill. “A man who doesn’t know wheth er he means 'and’ or ‘or* is unfit to write a statute,” Glass com mented. Washington, Feb. 4.—The sen ate,, almost without dfoing any thing, has been making history. For the second time in a week it ran out of business and ad journed until Wednesday. “This is the first time in his tory, I believe, that the senate has been able to keep, abreast of ready legislation,” said Senator Robin son, the majority chief. W. K. McLain, of Marshall, a member of the 1931 senate, is in Raleigh as the representative of Mladison county Democrats. Experts say that upholding the gold clause will ruin us.
