Vining by the score of 6-0; 6-1. Winners of first round matches so far are J. B. Hester, Dudley C, Smith, J. C. Kinloch, Jr., F. P. Bowes and Fred Mc- Laughlin. Bowes is scheduled to „ play the winner of the W. M. Hes ter-Bob Burnett match; Dudley Smith will play the winner of the C. P. Rogers, Jr.-M. A. Richards , . match; J. S. Blackwell will play the winner of the Ted Wilcox-Nel son Jackson, Jr., match; Julian Hester will play the winner of the C. P. Rogers, Sr.-Nelsoh Jackson, 111., match; Fred McLaughlin will play either Bill Burnett or M. B. Caldwell; other first round matches net played are Lavendar-Flynn, Hill-Tisdale, Kimberly-Ford, Law- Bingham. All first round matches are supposed to be played by Sun day evening. Large Part of Nation Spring went into a backslide yesterday. Snow, cold, rain and high winds beset a large portion of the nation. Sixteen deaths were reported in the wake of wind and electrical storms which swept six southern states. Eleven dead were counted in Arkansas, three in western Ken tucky and southern Indiana and one each in Texas and Tennessee. Continued on Back Page TRYON, N.
