Lane Taken By Death At Saluda Saluda. July 30. Mrs. H. P. IWLane. for many years a resident jbf Saluda, died suddenly at her home here Tuesday afternoon. A number oJf step-children survive. Funeral services were held Wed nesday morning at 9 o’clock in Saluda with the Rev. H. C'ary- Elwes officiating. Interment at the old home place in Sumter, S. C. Mlrs. Lane was the widow of the late Henry B. Lane for many years cashier of the Carolina St:Jte Bank at Saluda. Mrs. Lane had been in uoor health for some time but became seriously ill only about an hour before her death. Henry Genova, Col., July 27. Dear Folks: Arrived here about 5 o’clook. hours behind the time out Mast. Had my connecting rod bear ings tightened in St. MaryU, Kan. The fellow didn’t do a good job of it and they soon began knocking again. Had them tightened again here and she doesn’t knock a bit. Runs better than ever now. Hot country here. Miles in hot sun. 98 in shade. Saw a lot of oil wells. Car uses more oil than it should. May spend the night in Denver. Awfully lonesome now. Be glad when I get to Portland. Haven’t had a bit of trouble, other than tha connecting rod|S. Thfey are all right now. I will soon hit the Rockies. I will miss the worse places, thanks to goodness. Take my time all the way. Hope everyone is OK. Write me in about 4 or 5 days. Yale Professor Buys H. P. Esten’s Property Miss Helen H. Roberts, member of the faculty of Yale University in the department of Anthropology, has purchased the H. P. Esten property in the Valley. The sale was made through C. J. Lynch, Tryon real estate agent. Mr. and Mrs. Esten will leave shortly for New York, and Miss Roberts is expected soon to occupy her house. Indian Pageant Scout Executive R. M. Schiele states that another, interesting Indian pageant will be presented on Thursday evening at the Pied mont Boy Scout camp under the direction of Chief Blue Sky Eagle. The public is invited. GOLF NEWS Shelby and Tryon tied Tuesday afternoon in goif matches at the Tryon Country club. F. P . Bacon and Larry Brooks of Tryon de feated Carl Eskridge and J. Mc- Combs by two points; Perry Hil ton and Leland Hilton of Tryon defeated J. Whitestonc and Me- Curry by two points; Earl Rion and Nelson Jackson, Jr., lost by one point to P. Webb and Mc- Murry. Edward Sayre and Julian Hester of Tryon lost by Hire points to Briston and Ewitt o” Shelby. On Thursday afternoon a gen eral invitation tournament of the league will be held at Mo'rganton with Shelby, Tryon and Fores'; City taking part with Morganton. Est. 1-31-28
