C., who received national publicity last year when he allowed a rattle snake to bite him in order to> prove his faith, will preach on Saturday afternoon g.t 5 o’clock at the vacant lot on the corner of Maple and Trade streets, Jubilee Singers To Draw A Big Crowd Tryonites who enjoy Negro Spiritual singing have real treat in store for them tonight when they go to the Public school audi torium to hear the Great Smoky *pountain Jubilee Singers. The -program will be varied with humor ous musical selections and old-time Negro recitations. The Tryon P.- T. A., and the Negro Baptist Assembly will get the proceeds. The white people will use the main auditorium and the colored people will use the balcony. A full house is expected. Admission for chil dren 15 cents; adults 25 cents. Sylva Didn’t Arrive Svlva and Tryon were scheduled to play baseball Thursday after noon at Harmon Field, but for some reason the Sylva team fail ed to arrive in Tryon. Maybe they lost their way. The entire world was shocked this morning to hear over the radio the first report that Will Rogers and Wiley Post, the noted aviator were killed in an airplane crash. Thp* aicqflent occlurred Thursday a f ternoon about 5 o’clock, approximately 50 miles from Point Barrow, Alaska, where Will and Wiley were sight-seeing. Murphy Hall, Alaskan government inspetor went to the scene and gave the official report which was not released untii this morning. It is said that Post was lost, and hap pened to see some natives and landed, they told him where he was, he took off again and (Hashed in a river—the motor came back through the cock-pit killing both Rogers and Post. Will Regers was a citizen of the world and a big, charming brother in the hearts of millions of people who read his articles, heard him over the radio and sa.w him in the movies. The world has lost two (if its most influential citizens. Will Rogeirs’ last piece for the papers appeared in this morning’s Charlotte Observer as follows: (Special to The Charlotte Observer) Fairbanks, Alaska, Aug. 15— Visited our new emigrants.
