SCHOOL NEWS / ■ Mill Spring school closed its summer session Friday, Sept. 13, so the farmers may have their children at home to help with their crop gathering. We hope to begin again in about six weeks. The following is the Honor Roll for the second month: First Grg/de—Marvin Carroll, Joe Ben Edwards, Frank Foy, Wil liam Hill, Max Spurlin, Betty J. Collins, Lucile Fowler, Joan Mc- Kee, Jean Padgett, Alice Price, Joan Walker and Louise Walker. Second Grade—Mairvin Arledge, Robert Lee Hill, Boyce Leroy Jack son, Leon Underwood, Genelle Bradley, Ruby Lee Connor, Betty -Lou Connor, Pollyanna Gibbs, and Reucelle Whitener. Third Grade—Betty Jean Gibbs, Frances Jackson, Waverline Wal ker, Gratdy Carroll, Eugene Guf fey, Bob Miack Phillips, Kenneth Porter, Yates Williams and Joe Lewis Wilson. Fourth Grade—Mabel Carswell, Kathleen Harris, Earl Taylor and Calvin Bradley. Fifth Grade—Anita Egerton, Mildred Guffey, Henry Phillips, Haze Bradley, Russell Thompson. Sixth Grade June Coggins, Sarah Collins, Edith Lawter, Inez Moss, Ella Russell, John Porter. Seventh Grade—Mary Jackson, Emma Lqu Skipper and Bannard Johnson. A. D. Shelnutt Dies in Athens, Ga. A. D. Shelnutt, 62, father of H. L. Shelnutt of Tryon, died Monday morning in Athens,- Ga., after’ an illness of several weeks. Mr. Shel nutt was a visitor this summer in Tryon at the home of his son. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Shelnutt and daughter, Miss Betty, are in Athens now and no information was available concerning the funer al plans. HENRY Henry D. Shankle, Jr., who made a trip alone across the continent to Portland, Ore., in an old Ford car, has entered the night classes cf the Oregon State College of Technology and will thus be able to hold his job in the day time while attending college at night. Henry has a short article for this week's Polk County News in which he tells about hiking and camp ing on the beautiful mountains near Portland. The little short brown delegate from Ethoipia stood before the head men in Geneva: and explained his grievance as follows: “We Ethoipians were all setting around and loafing in the drug stores and street corners minding our own busness when all of a sudden a big stiff come marching down the stjreet proclaiming that he could lick every durn one of us, and my old mart saunt me here to tell the league that we think he took in too much territory and when he starts sumpen hitz agona be a durn sight harder to< stop than it wuz td start. —Static, in The News.
