C., FRIDAY, OCT. 4, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 POLK EXHIBIT AT STATE FAIR County Agent J. A. Wilson is getting up a 4-H club corn exhibit to send from Polk county to* the State Fair at Raleigh . The ex hibit will consist of ten 10-ear ex r^bits—100 ears of corn, required to make a County Exhibit. Something to Rent ? The Chamber of Commerce re quests all persons who have apart ments or rooms furnished for housekeeping to rent to please list them with local real estate agents so that the Chamber of Commerce will be in position to place inquiries. Nash-Arledge A marriage of interest to1 many friends throughout the two Caro linas was that of Miss Laura Morris Nash to Mr. John Thomas Arledge. The ceremoUy was per formed by Dr. E. E. Bomar at high noon today at the home of the pride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Fyash, at Landrum, S. C., in pres ence of immediate members of the two families. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Arledge of Columbus. He is a graduate of Wake Forest college and is a mem ber of the law firm of Massen biirg, McCdwn & Arledge of Try on. The bride was educated at Maryville college and she has many friends and relatives throughout the Carolinas. Following a short wedding trip in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park they will return to Tryon next week to make their home in the P. G. Morris apart ments. A Proclamation WHEREAS the destruction of life and property by fire is a mat ter of concern to everyone, and WHEREAS the reduction of fire waste can be affected in direct proportion to the amount of care exercised by all people, and WHEREAS the President of the United States for the benefit of the American People as a whole and with the view of arousing the people of the United States to the importance of eliminating* our enormous fire waste, has proclaim ed the week of October 7-11 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK THEREFORE, I, J. C. B. Eh ringhaus, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby pro claim the week of October 7-11 to be FIRE PREVENTION WEEK in order that the people of this State in every community shall in dividually and thrdugh our various organizations, discover and correct existing fire hazairds, promote measures of public and private protection, extei*dj instruction in fire prevention among adults, as well as school children, and arouse the people generally to the need for habits of greater care, and to this end I appeal to our citizens to thoroughly cooperate with the various fire departments through out the State and I' request that every Mayor issue a Proclamation. I earnestly solicit the cooperation cf Chambers of Commerce, Civic and Women’s Clubs, and the press.
