Grayson appealed to Polk County chapter of the American Red Cross for $175 to help the flood stricken peo ple who are homeless and without food and proper clothing he touch ed the hearts of the people of this community and at noon today there had been turned over to Treasur er, J. B. Hester, $182.15. This amount takes the local people over the top in the amount asked for but the appeal was made during the middle of last week and con siderable damage and suffering has been done since then. Anyone de siring to hel,p may send their do nations to the following persons: Miss Marjorie Capps at Missil dine’s pharmacy, Mrs. George A. Cathey at Blue Ridge Weavers, rjrs. Seth M. Vining at the Bulle jl&n office or to Treasurer J. B. If Hester in the Hester building. Masonic Meeting The Skyuka Masonic, lodge will confer the third degree tonight at lodge hall over Missildine’s phar macy. All visiting masons are cor dially invited. Time—8 o'clock. Basketball Tuesday Two all-star basketball games will be played at Columbus on Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Columbus gymnasium. These two games will be played between the Stearns all-star girls and boys and the Flat Rock all star girls and boys. BOY (SCOUTS S.OF AMERICA An interesting Boy Scout pro gram hss been arranged for to night at the Parish House begin ning at 7:45. An interesting fea ture to all visitors to Tryon will be the showing of colored moving pictures of Tryon as it is in the summer. The public is cordially invited to see this program. The Piedmont Boy Scout council of which Tryon is a part is one of the best councils in the nation. J. E. Walker Passes Jrhn Elias Walker, 86 died Sat urday about noon at his home near Mill Spring, just eleven days after his wife had passed away. Funeral services were held Sun day afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Mill Spring Baptist church with the pastor, Rev. Chas. B. Trammel, officiating. Grandsons acted as pall bearers and the grand daughters were flower girls. Mr. Walker was a native of Polk county and a well-known and respected citizen. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: John, Will and Crawford Walk er, Mrs. E. B. Mathis of Ruther fordton and Mrs. John Hutcher son of Columbus.
