FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1936 Baseball Saturday Tryon opens its baseball season in the Industrial League on Sat urday afternoon, May 2, when the locals will play the strong Brevard 'team at Harmon Field at 3:30. Jack Lane will umpire. The ad mission is 25c. The Tryon line-up will ba as follows: Ruppy Capps, first base; J. D. Ravan, center field; Eb. Fisher, right field; J. Fisher, second base; Roy Capps, third base; S. Edwards, left field; Will Fisher, short stop; Rob Capps, catcher; Lefty Thompson, pitcher. Post Office Receipts ; ) Increase In Tryon Postmaster W. H. Stearns re ports that the post office business in Tryon has increased in volume over $400 over April of last year. ^April’s business almost reached the M2,000 mark. Last year the local Bfiffiee took in $1,432.95 during April. This year for the same period the business reached $1,859.47. Six Men Tie For First Place In the men’s flag tournament of the Tryon Country club the follow ing men are tied for first place: C. H. Conrad, B. L. Ballenger, Julian Calhoun, Baxter Haynes, Stanford Stevens, Edward Sayre. The play offs will be made between Friday and Sunday. The qualifying rounds for the President’s cup will be played on ; Saturday. Miss Washburn Wins Ladies’ Flag Tourney Miss Hope Washburn won the flag prize in the ladies handicap tournament of the Tryon Country club Thursday. Her opponent was Mrs. L. P. Mills. To Build Here Miss Katharine Hamilton and Miss A. C. Twining, who have been coming to Tryon for many years have just recently bought the Wm. Gray lot in Gillette Woods adjoin ing the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Conrad, and plan to build a home there on their return to Tryon in the fall. “Tell It To The Marines” Opportunity for employment, trawl and training has been ex tended to twenty-eight more young men with the announcement this week of the May enlistment quota for the Savannah District Recruit ing Station of the United States Mai'ine Corps by Major Ralph E. Davis, Officer in Charge. Young men between 18 and 25 years of age, ranging in height from 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet 2 inches with corresponding weights, sound physiques, and a fair edu cation come within the category of those eligible to receive the op portunities offered by the U. S. Marine Corps. Full information regarding the various opportunities the Marine Corps has to offer young men may be obtained by visiting or writing the Marine Corps Recruiting Sta tion, Pest Office building, Savan nah, Georgia.
