C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 ®rumt ^Bulletin (The Smallest Daily Newspaper In The World) Vol. 9, Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N, C, FRIDAY, JULY 31, 1930 Attempted Robbery The burglar alarm out at the Farmers Federation went off with a loud noise this morning about k30, when someone attempted to ^ry open the rear door. Manager Claude Fisher, aroused by the alarm, managed to get two shots at the maruader as he fled toward his car parked on the Landrum highway, however, so far as known, neither of the shots registered. The only visible signs left of the excitement are the two empty ctartridges and some extra large foot-prints. Firemens’ Needs So many people have asked what the firemen need for their new ouarters, and Firemen Jim Fish er and B. B. Bishop, Jr., have handed in the following list: 4 Cots. ^ 4 Mattresses. ** 4 Pillows. 2 Bureaus. 16 Sheets. 8 Pillow Cases 4 Pair Blankets. 4 Card Tables. 16 Straight Chairs. 8 Rocking Chairs. 10 Ash Trays. 2 Cuspidors. 6 Floor Lamps. 6 Ruers ( Medium Sized). 20 Plates. 20 Coffee Cups and Saucers (not essen+ial that these match). 1 Kitchen Sink. SpTm calls shop girls to fight rebels. ^ The Parents Party The Parents Party scheduled for tonight at the Lake Lanier Inn will be postponed on account of the threatening weather. It is planned to hold the party Monday night if weather permits. If any parents who had not been able to come tonight find that they can come Monday night, will they please notify Dr. Taylor at tele phone 222-J, or send a message by their son Monday morning to the club. On the other hand, if any expecting to have cotne tonight find that they cannot come Mon day, will they please send word in a similar manner? The party is not a supper but a simple evening gathering. The United States Civil Service Commission has announced open competitive examinations for Soil Conservationists (Farm Planning* in the Soil Conservation Service, Department of Agriculture. Ap plications will be received until August 24, 1936. The salary's range from $2,609 to $4,600 a year, less a retirement deduction of SV2 percent. Competitors will not be require 1 to report for examination at any place, but will be rated on their education and experience. Ther must have completed a full four year course in agriculture leading to a bachelor’s degree in a college or university of recognized stand ing, and in addition, must have had certain experience. Full information may be obtain ed from W. D. Edwards, Secretary of the U. S. Civil Service Boar 1 of Examiners, at the post office or customhouse in this city.
