Five years ago, when Niven was “broke”, he sold his body to a hos pital for dissection after death. They gave him 5 pounds for it, plus 30 shillings because he didn’t smoke. Here is his brother’s letter, writ ten from England to David in Tryon (North Carolina) : My dear David, —I have taken your body out of hock, and it gives me great pleasure to return yourself to yourself herewith. As no one else seems to want you may as well have yourself. “When I left the Army (I was wtih the Highland Light Infan try), I was broke excep f for my passage money to America,” David told Reuter. »“I didn’t want to borrow from y family. Naturally I hated to admit my poverty to friends. There was only one thing to do— :-nd I did it. I sold my body to the hospital. “I had to sign a pledge that I would never smoke to qualify for that additional 30 shillings. “New, thanks to my brother, I finally belong to myself again.”— Daily Sketch, London, England. Govil-Hudson Announcement has been made of the Marriage of Mias Keron Covil to Mr. Taft Hudson of Tryon. They were married in Spartan burg 'Sunday evening by Judge Dewey Foster. TRYON, N. C., THURSDAY, JAN. 21, 1936 Green At Kiwanis Andrew H. Green delivered an interesting talk at the Tryon Ki wanis club on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon. He gave some first hand information on the de velopment of the automobile in dustry, the growth of Detroit and adventures in early strike troubles at Flint, Mich. He said that the real assets of Tryon were our mo u n tains, beautiful flowers, shrubs and wild life. Baker at Rotary J. M. Baker will have charge of the Rotary club program on Friday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. Meet Tonight The annual meeting of the Try on Country club will be held to night at 8 o’clock with president B. L. Ballenger, presiding. Orr Home Sold Mrs. Willis E. Parsons has pur chased the Melrose avenue proper ty of her sister, Mrs. John Orr. The property consists of two houses on the large lot. Mrs. Orr owns a third house nearby and will retain it. Mrs. Parsons re cently sold her home in Pacolet Hills to Mrs. Maude Brand, and will remodel her newly acquired property on Melrose avenue. Sale made through C. J. Lynch. Labor war strategists swing East. Strike peace efforts move to Washington. Secretary Perkins strikes to bring two factions into conference.
