Hester re ported today noon that $1,141.10 had'been received by the Polk County Chapter ofi the American Red Cross for the aid of the flood sufferers on the Ohio and Mississip pi rivers. Green Creek, Melvin Hill and Sandy Plains and more donations from Tryon brought the total from Wednesday’s S9OO to over SI,OOO as predicted in the Bulletin. The hearts of the nation has been touched by the terrible flood which has made millions of people homeless. The next danger point as the water sweeps down is between Cairo and Memphis. Basketball Games The Tryon high school will swing into its hard schedule be ginning tonight when the boys meet Spartanburg. This will be one of the best gamq|s of the season. The midget team composed of R. Ford, D. Beatson, C. Ford, i Chapman, McLean, Henson, Swann, McFarland and Vining, will en gage the Hendersonville midgets. There will be no girls game for Friday. The midget game will start at 7:30 p. m. On Saturday night the high school boys and girls will meet the strong Saluda teams. The Saluda boys have been county champions for several years. The Tryon boys are anxious to break their win ning sareak. In addition to the basketball games on Saturday night there will also be three added sporting attractions between the halves. These will prove very in teresting to the spectators. TRYON, N. C., FRIDAY, JAN. 29, 1937 Crime Costs Billions Says Hoover s G-Man G. N. Lowden of Charlotte, rep resentative of the Federal Bureau of Investigation under G. Edgar Hoover, delivered an interesting address today noon at the joint meeting of the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. Mr. Lowden spoke of the development of the G-Man depart ment from 1908, 1924 to the pres ent and briefly outlined the char acter and training required of G-Men and the development of fingerprinting and the laboratory work in detecting criminals. He also gave a number of interesting examples where criminals were captured through the aid of scien tific methods in detecting finger prints, bullets, etc., and using Continued on Back Page. Tryon Boys In A University Play Chapel mil, Jan. 29.—Special— Frank Turner and James Little of Tryon are playing important roles in the University of North Carolina Playmaker presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s immort al comic opera, “The Pirates of Penzance,” which is being given in Memorial Hall Friday and Sat urday. Forty-five actors and singers chosen from the Play makers, the Department of Music, and the general student body, are taking part. Turner is cast as a pirate and Little is a member of the Police men’s chorus. Turner is a fresh man at the University and Little is a sophomore.
