Tickets on sale at Missildine’s. Horse News: A mare on the farm of M. R. McCown gave birth to a mule colt on Horse Show Day. Mules are becoming so valu able and necessary to progressive farming in this section that a num ber of farmers are raising mules. They have strong bodies and are sure-footed. A result of the union of a jack and mare. However, a jenny bred to a stallion produc es an animal called a hinny. It is smaller than the mule. We have been requested to pub lish regularly the “Headlines” each day. People who get the big dailiefc claim that it is always of interest to them and that ,there are many people who take jthing but the Bulletin and Polk , News. The Iree moving pictures of the Boy Scout Camp ’and of Lake Lanier will be of interest to everyone on Monday night at 7:15 at the Parish House. The public is invited. The local Scouts are doing excellent work and did a splendid job of parking cars and acting as guides at the Horse Show on Wednesday. Finance Chairman Nelson Jackson, Jr., is endeavoring to raise Polk county’s quota of SI,OOO by the end of this week. Anyone in the community or county may contribute to this character building work. If they have not been called on they may send their donation to Mr. Jack son or to the Bulletin. TRYON, N. C„ FRIDAY, MEETING HUMAN NEEDS The Polk County Chapter of the Red Cross and the Polk County Helping Hand met on Tuesday of this week for reports on work ac complished and consideration of work to be done. The treasurer of the Red Cross, J. B. Hester, stated that $1,624.87 had been sent to National headquarters for flood relief, an amount more than eight times greater than the original quota for Polk county. In addition a large quantity of suit able clothing was forwarded to the flooded areas by the local chap ter working in conjunction with the Kiwanis club. Many cases of emergency need in Polk county * were met during the winter by the ’ Home Service Chairman, Mrs.' George Cathey. The Case Committee of the Helping Hand society reported co operation with Miss Rebecca Hos kins, the County Welfare Worker, in several of the two hundred cases under her care. Because of limited funds, the Helping Hand can assist in thei moist urgent cases only. The intimate nature of such work precludes its pub lication ; but, without the aid given by the Helping Hand, some fami lies would be in desperate plight,.
