Henry reported last night that Alonzo Rhodes, said to be an escaped convict from a North Carolina prison farm, was captured by county and North Carolina officers about 3 o’clock yesterday (Sunday) morning at a house above Inman. The sheriff said Rhodes received a sentence for murder in Polk county and that he had previous ly escaped, on one occasion being rearrested by Sheriff Will Wilkins of Polk county. The sheriff said Rhodes had been at liberty for some time when he and his men, with the North Carolina authorities, surrounded the house in which he was staying and called on him to surrender.— Spartanburg Herald. J Betsy Suttle Funeral services for little Betsy Suttle. three-year-old granddaugh ter of Mr and M'rs. Jack Gaze, were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian /church. Interment in Try on cemetery. The Rev. D. M. McGeachy, officiated. The little child was accidentally scalded early Friday morning when a pan of hot water was overturned from the stove into her la,p. She was rushed to St. Luke’s hospital for treatment and was brought home soon afterwards. Saturday morning her condition grew worse and she nassed away Saturday afternoon. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Agnes Suttle. of Charlotte and a brother, Bi*uce. age 6. A. will begin their annual drive for merberships this week Ehgene Turner writes from Ruling, China, on August 18: “In spite of our Shanghai address we are about four hundred miles from the havoc and distress of war there. Fortunately for us. tho at the price of missing the excite ment and the thrill of danger, we are here in the Yangtze valley mountain resort of Ruling, with a couple of thousand other foreign ers of eight or ten nationalities.
