Est. 1-31-28 Garden Club Meets At 4 O’clock The Tryon Garden club will meet Wednesday at 4 p. m., instead of the hour previously announced. Three More Boys Join Local Club (By Richard MfcClure) George 'CooMsey, Lynnwood Rhodes and Nathan Moore joined the Tryon Boys’ club this morn ing, making 33 on the roll. Work In the club was divided up as fol lows : Airplane Modeling—Bob Nance, leader; Julius Earle Brock, Marion Edwards, Brock Henry, Ben Crosswhite. Shop Work— Maj. W. A. Schiiletter, leader; R. L. Williams, Pickens Durham, Green, Harold Taylor, John Lewis Thompson, Burrell Byers, Robert Richard McClure. Lino leum Work—J. Alvin Wilson, Joe Bill Mebane, Marvin Ed wards, Royal Ford, Nahtan Moore, Galvin Wachter. Pottery—Seth Vining, Lock McGeachy. Weaving —Fred McKaig, Douglas Helms, James McKaig, Holland Brady, Donald Arledge. Basketry—Wilt on Ferguson, Fred Eargle, Lynn wood Rhodes. Counselors this year are Bob Nance, Henry McGeachy, David Gromer. Kiwanis Tryon Kiwanians will go to Rutherfordton On Thursday night for an inter-club meeting at 7 o clock at the Rutherfordton Coun try dun. i TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, JUNE 21, 1938 “CURB” REPORTER Edwin Miarkham said: “We have committed the Golden Rule to memory; let us now commit it to life.” .... Invitation from Sadie Patton to attend the Centennial Celebration of Henderson County, North Carolina, at Hendersonville, July 31, Aug. 1,2, & 3 ... . Capt. Morris A. Bryan has returned to Coconut Grove, Fla The Boys’ club has started off this year with greater enthusiasm. Dr. George Taylor and Mrs. Anne Bosworth Greene have contributed a worthy institution to the com munity. And the grateful parents of about fifty boys are glad that Major W. A. SchilbHer is carry ing on the work this year with the help of Mrs. Greene and Dr. Tay lor. For 5c a week local boys are given much of the benefits of camp life such as learning useful arts and handicrafts, instruction in good citizenship, sportsmanship and the ways of outdoor life; they enjoy the camping activities of hiking, swimming, baseball and various games and contests. Boys are coming in from the Valley and Columbus. It is an opportunity to enrich young lives, an oppor tunity parents can’t afford to pass up when it costs so little. Some kind neighbor might do a good deed by bringing in a load of boys from the country each morning . . .
