Johnson From the headlines we learn that the State Assembly called in special session by Governor Hoey to pass legislation enabling North Carolina to benefit from the Na tional PWIA Building Program, will probably finish its work by the end of this week . . . Several attempts have been made by mem bers of the Assembly to offer bills pertaining to the abolishment of the Absentee Ballot—but in each instance, the “gag” rule has been invoked preventing action on the bills .... President Frank lin D. Roosevelt is expected to make a brief address from the platform of his special train when it stops at Greenville, S. C., this evening at around 9 p. m. The President, enroute from his Warm Springs, Georgia home to the capital, will be in Greenville for only a few minutes while the en gines of the train are changed. . . The third annual Henderson ville Horse Show opened today and will continue thru Friday night, ending with the Horse Show Ball in the city gymnasium with Bill Stringfellow and His Buccaneers furnishing music for the dancing. Many horse lovers from this vici nity are expected to attend . . . . The rumor that M,. B. (Lefty) Flynn, who with Mrs. Flynn, is vacationing ip the North, was in- Continued on Back Page TRYON, N, C., THURSDAY, AUG, 11, 1938 Try on Golfers Go To Forest City Around 20 Tryon golf players left at noon today for Forest City where they will meet a group of players from that city at the Forest City course for return games between golf fans of the two towns. Complete scores of the games will be published in Friday’s issue of the Bulletin. Try on’s Baseball Team Plays Biltmore The local team will meet the Biltmore team at Harmon Field at p. m., Saturday. Tryon is now in first place in the Indus trial League and action is certainly on the bill for this game. Correction The Tryon Rotary club luncheon will be held Friday afternoon at 1 p. m., instead of at 7 p. m., as appeared in Wednesday’s issue. The luncheon will be at Sunnydale, and Major Sharp will address the club on “The Situation In the Far East.” The Bulletin was in error and is glad to make a correction. W. O. W. To Organize Post In Tryon A. B. Galloway of Brevard, and James E. McAbee, special state representative from Kinston, were in Tryon today consulting with local men preparatory to applying for a charter for a W. O. W. Post here. According to these repres entatives, the number of members required for the issuance of a charter were being rapidly enrolled.
