ENTERED AS SECOND-CLASS MATTER AUGUST 20, 1928, AT THE POST OFFICE AT TRYON, N. C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 Wc[t lc Per Copy (The World’s Smallest Daily Newspaper) Per Copy, le Vol. 11. Est. 1-31-28 Plant Holly For Christmas Many of our residents and win ter visitors have adopted the cus tom of having a living Christmas instead of cutting one. This year all are being urged to plant a tree and let it be a holly. It is hard on any living tree, however, to bring it into a warm house and later plant it out side. The best way to he’p in the conservation of holly is to use some other tree for a Christmas tree and plant a holly at once in some good location where it will be enjoyed. And by all means do not use a tree that has been taken up in the woods surrounding us. This does not increase the supply, and moreover lessens your chances of success. Holly is a difficult tree to transplant and must be started properly. Get a good plant from a nursery. Our supply of native holly is getting alarmingly short. It will not stand heavy pruning. Experts tells us only a tenth of the branch es can be removed without en dangering the life of the tree. The makers of wreaths are re sponding to the call to save holly. We see lovely wreaths for sale trimmed with other red berries. The Garden club will be glad to have the names of all those who are willing to plant a holly tree, and will furnish directions for proper planting.—T. G. C. Rotary Friday B. L.
