Tryon Kiwanians will meet Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon . . . The Directors’ Trophy for the golf tournament this weekend is on dis play at the Ballenger Co., show "window .... Lee waived extradition and unless bond is arranged will be in Columbus jail until the August term of Polk County Superior Court ..... TRYON, N C., SATURDAY, APRIL 29, 1939 Flower Show Held By Tryon Garden Club The sixth annual Flower Show, sponsored by the Tryon Garden club, was held Friday afternoon at the Parish House. The theme was “Through the Garden Gate.” The rooms were attractively deco rated to represent a garden with lattice enclosure. M*any beautiful and unusual exhibits were shown in 19 classes. The judges were: Mrs. John Ar rington, Mrs. George Stephenson and Mrs. Henry Donkle of Green ville, S. C.; Mrs. Arch Walker and Mlrs. A. N. Chreitzberger, of Spartanburg, S. C., and Mrs. Clif ford Hayes of Lyman, S. C. Awards were made strictly on the point basis, and all exhibits having more than 90 points were given a blue ribbon. Special priz es were awarded in the classes for school children. Mrs. Harkness Smith was in charge of the show, assisted by many committees. Boutoinieres *and miniature cor sages were sold by Girl Scouts. Ribbons were awarded in all classes as follows: Class I—Specimen of bearded iris, blue ribbon, Miss Christobel' Sawyer, Mrs. Arthur ‘Smith, Mrs. Ralph Erskine, J. B. Hester, Sr., Mrs. Louis Avant, Mrs. Ju lian Calhoun;; red ribbons, Miss Emma MlcFarland, Mrs. J. B. Hester, Sr.; yellow ribbons, Mrs. Nelson Jackson, Jr., Mrs. Maude G. Brand.
