Meeting \ Mrs Wilbur Devendorf, field v of the State Parent '"Teachers Association, Asheville, was the guest speaker of the Try on P.-T. A. on Monday afternoon at the school auditorium. Her subject was on “Problems of High School Students from the Parent- Teacher Angle.” The president, Mrs. E. E. Mis sildine. presided over the meeting. During the business session the chairman of the Ways and Means committee announced that there would be a P.-T. A. rummage sale on the first of April. Anyone who has anything for the rummage please call Mrs. B. G. Henry or Miss Elisabeth Watson or leave it at the school house. The member ship chairman reported a number of new members since the last meeting. -i. A splendid report from the Wel- Jhre committee was given by Miss --Thelma Mills. During the social hour tea was served in the cafeteria by the fol lowing hostesses: Mrs. James Baker, Mrs. Prank McFarland, Mrs. J. W. Taylor and Mrs. Mar vin Edwards. Court of Honor Tonight At 7:30 The Polk County Boy Scout Court of Honor will be held to night at 7:30 at the Parish House. Scoutmaster W. A. Schilletter states that the largest number of boys are working for advancement at this time than at any time since his troop was organized. Public invited to the meeting. TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 1940 Final Lenten Lecture The last Lenten lecture of this season will be given by Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln at Oak Hall hotel Wednesday at 4 o’clock. The topic will be “The Possibility of Perfect ing Humanity—Th<& Prayers of Jesus as Revelations of His Teachings.” Dr. Lincoln will deal with such questions as What is the possibility of perfecting humanity? Is Thomas Hardy right in “The Dynasts” in stating that human history,.runs its course to nothing ness at last? Is there an inevit able law of progress, or is progress conditional? Does God seem to have a purpose for the race as a whole? What is the significance of Christ in the evolution of the race? What part does the church have in the attempt to perfect humanity? Do psyicho-analyiats and psycho-therapists do the work which the church should do and could do better? "Wherein does the hope of the constant improve ment of humanity lie? Everyone is invited. Hunter Trials Will Be Held Wednesday The annual Hunter Trials pro moted by the Tryon Riding & Hunt Club will- be held on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:30 at the LeMort place in the Hunting Country. C. of C. Meets Thursday President K. A. Bowen has call ed a meeting of the members of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce to be held on Thursday night at 7:30 at Missildine’s Hall.
