Eat. 1-31-28 BAND CONCERT FRIDAY The Tryon-Saluda band will give a free concert on Friday night at P 8 o’clock at the Tryon School Aud itorium. The public is invited. The band made such a hit at the joint meeting of the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs last week that over S2OO was raised with which to buy some additional equipment. HIGH SCHOOL DANCE Mr. and Mjrs. M. B. Flynn will entertain a number of young peo ple of the Tryon Hiigh school with a dance on Friday evening at Sunnydale following the band con cert. Hunt Club Host To Scouts Tryon Boy Scout Troop No.l enjoyed a feast on Tuesday eve ning when the Tryon Riding and Hunt club entertained them with a steak sunper at Harmon Field. B[President8 [President Carter P. Brown of the Blunt club was the chief cook; C. J. Lynch was master of ceremonies Scoutmaster W. A. Schilletter and other members of the committee were present. Prior to the game bovs divided into two teams and had a softball game. The af fair was a complete success. CALLED TO BALTIMORE C. J. Lynch went to Baltimore, MJd., today to be at the bedside of Mrs. Lynch who is in the Mary land General Hospital suffering from, a broken shoulder and other injuries as the result of an auto collision when the taxi cab in wh’ch she and Mrs. Marshall were riding was hit by a car coming from a side street. $1.50 Year In the Carolinas TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 1940 Red Cross Campaign Before the Polk County Red Cross campaign for S7OO got un der way $17.00 had been received by J. B. Hester, Sr., treasurer of the Polk County Chapter, to apply on the “War Relief” fund. In a day or so the committee in charge, Rev. Charles L. McGavem, Mrs. George Canfield, and Walter M. Howell, will send out a letter ask ing for contributions and stating that those who wish to do so may leave money for the Polk quota with Mrs. George Cathey, Blue p idge Weavers, or with Mliss Mar jorie Capps, Missildine’s Drug Store. Managers of the Adams- Millis Co., and of the Southern Mercerizing Co., have appointed persons to receive contributions from employees. Tryon Rotary Club Goes To Asheville Thursday The Tryon Rotary club and Hen dersonville Rotary club will meet with the Asheville club on Thurs day at 1 o’clock at the Battery Park Hotel. The Tryon club head ed by President . Perry Manville will be in charge of the program for the event. A feature of the meting will be the showing of motin n pictures of Holland taken by Tryon Rotarian Sam Bingham when he visited The Netherlands. LEASES CRESTWOOD Lyman W. Pickett of St. Peters burg. Fla. has leased Crestwood on Godshaw hill for the summer from June 7th to Slept. 7th and plans to bring manv summer visit ors to Tryon, according to E. Perry Manville. local realtor.
