Est. 1-31-28 Coker Alumnae To Meet In Asheville, April sth Mrs. R. H. Brady, graduate of Coker College, has been appoint ed publicity chairman of Coker College graduates in Polk Coun ty who are being invited to attend the Coker College Alumnae meet ing which will be held on Satur day, April sth, during the North Carolina State Teachers conven tion in Asheville. The Coker Alumnae will meet at the S&W Cafeteria at 1 o’clock. Thirteen Young Men Needed For CCC Work Soon Miss Ina T. Tyler, S. P. W., has announced that the Polk County quota for the CCC camp has been set at 13, ten white and three colored. Young men must be from 17 to 25 years of age. The pay is S3O per month plus board and room. Any young man interested in this work should get in touch with M!iss Tyler as soon as possible. Agricultural Training Needed In Schools An interesting article appears in this week’s Polk County News in which is discussed the need for Agricultural training in the pub lic schools of Polk County. The article was written by a local resident interested in the training of our youth according to their talents for better service to them selves and their country. C., THURSDAY, MAR. 27, 1941 Judges for Clean-Up Week Projects In Tryon Schools Projects for Clean-Up Week, April 7 to 12, whcih have been underway for some time in the Tryon public schools, are nearing completion. Judges of these pro jects have just been named by Mrs. Montgomery Whaling of the Civics Committee of Tryon Gard en club, which is sponsoring Clean- Up Week under the direction of Mrs. Raymond Dodge, chairman of the Civics Committee. The projects and judges are as fol lows: Folders, prepared by five groups in grades 1,2, and 3; individual prizes to be awarded to first and second in each group; judges, Mrs. F. P. • Bacon, Mts. Seth M. Vining, Mrs. E. Pue-Williams. Project to beautify section of school yard; group competition in grades 4,5, 6 and 7; three prizes; judges. Miss Christobel Sawyer, Miss Helen Roberts, Mrs. "S!, S. Woody. Posters, grades 8,9, 10 and 11, high school; individual prizes; judges. Mrs. Bernard Manning, Mrs. Lincoln Cunningham, Mrs. Austin Woody. Essays, grades 8,9, 10 and 11, high school; individual prizes; judges, Miss Susan Harper, Mrs. E. M. Addis, Mrs. K. A. Bowen. Nelson Jackson, Jr., returned Wednesdav from a business trip to New York. Just before leaving on Tuesday night he, checked with the hospital concerning the con dition of Dr. Lincoln and it is thought Dr. Lincoln will be able to return home within a few weeks. lc PER COPY
