Members of the Boy Scout or ganization and Boy’s Club of Try on will call at every home in Tryon on Thursday, July 24, to fejgather any aluminum which can Wte spared. This is an opportunity fcr every family to contribute to the National Defense Program in an effective way. All alum inum is to be used exclusively for national defense and will be sent directly to the smelters where all by-products will be used. Pots, pans, kettles, bottle tops, refrigerator plates, toys, screen ing, double-bcilers—anything that is made of aluminum will do. The purpose of the campaign is to sup plement the vast supplies of the metal which is vital to production of defense equipment, especially of fighting planes. Mayor John R. Burgess of Co lumbus and Mayor Roy R. Baisden of Saluda have been appointed to head the aluminum drive in their respective towns. Grover Feagan, Tyhairman of the County Board of has been appointed to drive in the remainder of Polk County. Mayor E. E. Missildine heads the drive in Tryon. Country Club Notes The Inter-Club match with the Spartanburg Country Club team will take place at the Tryon Country Club on Wednesday at 2 p. m. Civil Defense Committee Organized In Polk County The permanent committee for the Polk County Council of Civil Defense has been appointed by C. J. Lynch, chairman. If any of the following members are unable to serve they are asked to notify the chairman as soon as possible: Agriculture and 4-H Clubs: Joe Wilson, Columbus. American Legion, Rotary, Bank ing: Julian B. Hester, Tryon. Hospital, Nurses, Doctors: Ju lian Calhoun, Tryon. City Government: Claude H. Helms, Tryon. County Government: Grover Feagan, Campobello, S. C., R-l. Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Publicity: Seth M. Vining, Tryon. Scouts, Boys’ Club, Schools: M. B. Caldwell, Tryon. Merchatns: George A. Cathey, Tryon. Utilities, Telephone, Light, Pow er, Transportation: K. A. Bowen, Tryon. Women’s Clubs and Church Or ganizations: Mrs. Carroll P. Rogers, Tryon. The duties of the council are to .cooperate locally with the government in promoting national defense and will begin this week in helping to promote the alum inum collection.
