Hester for use in operating the observation posts during the air plane maneuvers early next month. Nine more pair of glasses are needed. L. A. Avant presi dent of the Polk County Telephone Company has offered his coopera tion in making a private telephone line to the tower on Tryon Moun tain and one to post observer Robert S. McFarland at Colum bus. Governor Broughton says, “Please make every effort to com plete organization by September 15th ...... Among the business trades made recently was the sale of the Rector Laundry building by C. M. Eargle to N. R. Rector. Mr. Rector has occupied the building ( for about 15 years. The interior ! of the building has undergone many changes with the addition of modern equipment from time to time in an effort to keep pace with an expanding business. And seeing into the future some of the equipment was purchased be fore the volume of business justi fied it, so that today Tryon has one of the most up-to-date laun dries in the country ..... A lot of interest is being shown in the motorcade CONTINUED ON BACK PAGE Country Day School Opens This Month The Tryon Country Day School will open for its seventh year on September 29th, instead of Octo ber Ist, in order to give a full week at the outset. These two extra days will be considered a part of October and will be can celled later during the year. Tn addition to the usual staff of Mrs. Brundage, Miss Wash burn, and Mrs. Bowen, super visors, respectively of the Pri mary, Intermediate and upper grade departments, it is announc ed that Mrs. John Preston will be associated with the school as art instructor, and Mrs. Wm. St. Julien (Tip) Jervey as instructor in music. MARY THOMPSON Mary Thompson, 76, well-known colored woman of Mill Spring community, died on Tuesday af ternoon at 2 p. m. Burial service was held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at Stony Knoll. She is sur vived by one son, Clarence Thomp son. Rotary Meets Friday George S. Jenks will be in charge of the Rotary Club pro gram on Friday at 1 p. m., at Sunnydale. Dr. Taylor at Holy Cross Dr.’ George Farrand Taylor will preach Sunday morning at 11 o’clock at the Church of the Holy Cross, in the absence of tne Rec tor, the Rev. Chas. L.
