ENTERED AS SECOND-CLASS MATTER AUGUST 20, 1928, AT THE POSTOFFICE AT TRYON, N. C- UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 THE TRYON DAILY BULLETIN lc per copy (The World’s Smallest Daily Newspaper) lc per copy Seth M. Vining. Editor $1.50 Year in the Carolinas Vol. 14. Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N. C., WED., SEPT. CURB REPORTER One of the new arrivals in the United States of interest to Tryon friends was that of little Miss Knowlton, born recently at Wor cester, Mass., to Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Knowlton, nee Sallie Coe. ..... Just when a fellcw gets in a mood of satisfaction and thankfulness even though poor, along comes an advertisement reading, “Do you want to go to South America with a newspaper party? To see all the beautie = and interests of those varied lands, different people, different scenes, different ways of doing things, a trio fraught with news worthy significance, etc. The trip to cost less than SI,OOO, all ex penses paid; 52 days travelling ' 10,000 miles, some of it by air olane ever the Andes, some of it by motor, then a wonderful boat trip home.” We dream, then sigh, and drop the advertisement in the waste paper basket. Turn ing to look out the window at our own beautiful mountains shadow ed by big snow white clouds travelling across a clear blue sky, We take a deep breath of cool, invigorating mountain air and become alert to the joy of being alive in such a climate, and im mediately start writing the Curb Reporter ...... 28 people en tered the match play against par tournament at the Tryon Country Continued on Back Page Football Friday; Tryon High Vs. Inntan High The 1941 Tryon high football team under coach Ed Beach, a former University of Oregon end, will get under way with a game with Inman high on Friday, Stept. 19th, at Harmon Field. The local team with over half of their stars of last year gone is busily groom ing new men for the vacant posi tions. The backfield with Ed Beat son, Jack Melton and Robert An drews has been supplemented by Durham and Baker. The line is being built around Locke Mc- Geachy, Wall, and Arledge. New faces that will see service this year are Bishop, Moore, Cox, Marvin Edwards, Marion Ed wards, Capps, Tom Melton, Bridge man and a few others. The Tryon squad will present a :>st attack with an entirely new form of offense which should be interesting for the spectators to watch. The only indication of the potential strength of the team is the result of a scrimmage with Hendersonville eleven on Tuesday. Both teams were about equal, with the Hendersonville bunch scoring one touchdown, and the Tryon boys losing a score by having a pass slip through one of the end’s fingers while standing over the goal line. The Inman team has been on the local schedule for about fif teen years and have furnished the opening date for the past three years. Their teams play hard, clean ball, with good coach ing and sportsmanship. All this points to an interesting afternoon on Harmon Field. The game will start promptly at 3:30 DST. 17, 1941
