Speaker Miss Ella Krceschell, who has - >nade her home in Tryon the past Jtvo years since the war prevent ed her returning to her home in Denmark, made a very interesting talk at the Tryon Parent-Teach ers Association meeting on Mon day afternoon at the Tryon school auditorium when she told of the 20 years of happy life in Denmark before the invasion of Hitler’s army. After the talk a social period was enjoyed in the school cafeteria where Mrs. R. H. Brady, Mrs. H. L. Arledge, Mrs. R. E. Brantley and Mrs. W. R. Hoots served refreshments. Navy Day Proclamation Whereas, Navy Day was in- 1 augurated in 1922 by the Navy | League of America and its ob- ; servance approved annually by the league and the United States Navy with the approval of e President of the United States. Whereas, it is fitting and prop er that this day be observed as a tribute to the United States Navy and its personnel as a first line of defense of the Nation, now, therefore, I, E. E. Missildine, Mayor of the Town of Tryon, North Caro lina, do hereby proclaim Monday, October 27th, 1941, as Navy Day and do urge citizens to observe this day by the arrangement of pro grams’, the display of flags and in any other possible manner that will bring to the attention of our citizens the necessity of the main tenance of an adequate Navy as a National defense. E. E. Missildine, Mayor, Town of Tryon. 51.50 Year in the Carolinas TUESDAY, OCT. 21, 1941 TRYON, N C., Mr. Stoney and Mr. Lea To Speak Here Thursday Rev. William S. Stoney of Mor ganton will come to Tryon on Thursday morning to address the District Meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Church of the Holy Cross. The Episcopal church throughout the country is marsh alling all the strength of its wo man power into unified action and outlook to meet the present re ligious challenger of a world at war. The Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal church, the Rt. Rev. Henry St. John Tucker, is the instigator of this advance movement and it is at his request thaf Mr. Stoney is coming, for his parish has already taken this step in unification of parish work. Mr. Stoney will speak after the Communion Service which will be conducted by Bishop Gribben at 10:30. After Mr. Stoney’s talk, the subject to be discussed by the meeting is work among the sol diers, with special reference to Camp Croft. Mr. Lea’s church, The Church of the Advent, Spar tanburg, did outstanding work in the last war, and is already go ing at full speed, in looking out for the soldiers now. Much in terest here has been evidenced in this nhase of the meeting to which people of other churches are in vited to come and hear Mr. Lea at 12:10. The U. S. Crop Reporting Board, in its latest release, es timates the 1941 cotton crop at 11,610,0000 bales, as compared with 12,566,000 bales ginned in 1940. 5c copy
