ASKS UNIFORM OPENING Raleigh, N. C., Aug. 9.—In view of the polio epidemic Governor Broughton yesterday asked the state board of education to adopt a uniform delayed opening date for the state’s public schools. Dr. Carl V. Reynolds, state health officer, and the state health board have recommended that the school openings be delayed until September 18th, or later, if the epidemic has not subsided by then. At its regular meeting last week the state hoard of education left the matter up to local school and health authorities. A special meet ing of the board will be necessary to act on the governor’s request. ^®rs. A. Helminger, formerly or Cooper’s Gap, is quite ill at her home in Morganton, 707 West Union Street.
