WITH OUR ARMED FORGES TO: Tec. 5 Tollie P. Ross, Asn. 34608072, U. S. Army: 1. In forwarding the attached letter from Major General Max well D. Our duties have entailed the issuing of rations to the largest number of troops by any one Ra tion Breakdown point in this Theatre; the skid-loading of ra tions to be landed in Normandy during the assault phases of the Invasion; and the large shipments by air of rations to the advancing troops in France. 3. The collective loyalty, initia tive and complete devotion to d”ty of all the men of this section has made our success possible and our unit deserving of this commenda tion. 4. A copy of the attached letter together with this indorsement are being placed in your 201 file. George C. Pattison, 1st Lieut., Q.M.C. Ration Break down Officer. This newspaper has received a picture of Pfc. Paul Cantrell taken with a group of other wounded American soldiers at Lincoln Cathedral in England where they were taken on a tour of the place by the Dean of Lin coln, the Very Rev. Robert A. Mitchell and the Archdeacon, the Ven. K.C.H. Warner. Afterwards the party visited Lincoln Castle. In* their letter to the editor the Dean and Archdeacon wrote: “Dear Sir: “The name of this city is by no means the only connecting link between us and the United States of America. The most valued treas ure that we possess, our original copy of Magna Carta after being exhibited at the World’s Fair in New York, is still fn America. “It was in our Chapter House that the Freedom of the City of Lincoln was conferred on the American Ambassador, Mr. Win ant in 1942 on the anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, and last but not least, the gigantic task of repairing this Cathedral was made possible during the last twenty years largely by the mag nificent gifts of money received from the United States. “It is natural therefore, that we should greet American visitors with peculiar pleasure when they come to Lincoln, and today we have had the special privilege of wel coming a number of men from an American hospital, who recently returned wounded from fighting our battles in Normandy. “We hope that they have enjoyed their visit as much as we have enjoyed the honour of their com pany. Our lasting gratitude and good wishes are with them and all their fellow countrymen. “Yours sincerely, “Robert A. Mitchell, “K. C. H. Warner?"' “Archdeacon.” In a letter to A. J. Ravan of Tuxedo, N. C., Cpl., Elmer G. (Dock) Wilson writes from India that he had seen George Webster in India. Cpl. Wilson is playing softball for the army. He says he is getting along fine except for the hot weather.
