Vinmg, Editor. Vol. 17. Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N. C., WED., OCTOBER 18, 1944 CURB REPORTS Weather Tuesday: High 71, iow 34 . . . Marvin Geddings, Duke Power Co., agricultural en gineer, was the guest speaker at Kiwanis Tuesday and gave an in teresting picture of post war farm life with all the conveniences made possible by electricity. One item of special interest was that a quarter horse power motor would do a man’s work for only one cent an hour. There were approxi mately 100 uses for electricity on the farm. Electricity hatches eggs, incubates the little chickens, warms drinking water, purifies the air in the hen house, makes the pullets lay at a time when the prices are highest, kills the chicken when needed, furnishes hot water for picking feathers, freezes them un til needed and then cooks them. Afterwards the dishes are washed and dried electrically . . . Guests at the meeting included J. H. Brookshire of the Duke Power Co., Spartanburg, James R. Trow bridge of the Rotary club, and S|Sgt. Francis Chapman who brought along some interesting souvenirs of the war in Europe where he was wounded. The sou venirs were made from parts of an airplane and Sg$. Chapman’s own beautiful- handiwork received the praise of admiring Kiwanians. . .- . . Allies making progress in Pacific and in Europe. Germans putting up stiff fight. Your son, First Lieutenant John B. Met calf, has had a share in this cam paign as the bombardier on one of our Liberators.
